Mon Nov 26 2007'Walk Like An Egyptian' is good, but they're pretty much just another one-hit wonder. Their other songs don't measure up.

Mon Dec 04 2006a passable but strictly third division act who'll be nothing more than a footnote in annals of pop music. Without Susannah Hoffs as eye candy they would've remained in obscurity. very unremarkable

Fri Aug 18 2006they were good, but let's face it, without the GOGO'S they would never have been successful, I liked the Bangles, but prefer the GOGO'S much more.

Tue Jul 11 2006After going through the other comments, I wonder if everyone remembers that this is a pop artist list. There are separate lists for classic rock, new wave, rap, etc. Classic rock means heavier, full-length efforts, pop means singles, and the Bangles were a great singles band. I picked up the band's 1990 compilation "Greatest Hits" as an impulse a few years back, which usually means either a great disappointment or an extremely pleasant surprise. In this case I found the latter. The hits were all there as I remembered them (e.g. "Manic Monday," "Walk Like An Egyptian," and "Eternal Flame"), but I discovered some numbers (or rediscovered some that I had ignored back in the day) that should have been bigger than they were (e.g. "Hero Takes A Fall," "Walking Down Your Street," "In Your Room," "Be With You," and the band's more than competent cover of "Hazy Shade Of Winter"). For a group that was essentially a pop/new wave band (a type of band which wouldn't normally have that much commerci... Read more

Mon Jun 26 2006More enjoyable 80s pop! With great vocals and lively lyrics, my favorite songs from this group include the pure-fun "Walk Like an Egyptian," "Goin' Down to Liverpool," and "Manic Monday."

Mon Apr 10 2006Classic 1980s band. While the cover of Hazy Shade of Winter left something to be desired, Susana Hoff can still hit notes that I am convinced do not exist on a standard music scale.

Fri Sep 30 2005Some good songs, but not among the big bands. Sorry.

Wed Sep 28 2005Not a bad group, but a whole lot better than the Spice Girls!

Wed Apr 27 2005How can you compare the Bangles to the Beatles I mean the Bangles are not even in the same league. They had a few top fourty hits but what did they bring to the table nothing. They are a poor man's Go Gos, there I said it and you all know it is true. The Go Gos were way better than the bangles any day of the week. That is a much better comparison.

Wed Apr 06 2005Susana Hoffs should stuck it out with this group. A few really good songs.

Fri Sep 03 2004'Walk like an Egyptian' was a fun song. Girl bands can rock too!! All the old paintings on the tomb They do the sand dance, don'cha know? If they move too quick (Oh-Way-Oh) They're falling down like a domino And the bazaar man by the Nile He got the money on a bet For the crocodiles (Oh-Way-Oh) They snap their teeth on a cigarette Foreign types with their hookah pipes sing: Way-oh-way-oh-way-ooo-aaa-ooo... Walk like an Egyptian. The blonde waitresses take their trays Spin around and they cross the floor. They've got the moves (Oh-Way-Oh) You drop your drink then they bring you more All the school kids so sick of books They like the punk and the metal band When the buzzer rings (Oh-Way-Oh) They're walking like an Egyptian All the kids in the marketplace say: Way-oh-way-oh-way-ooo-aaa-ooo... Walk like an Egyptian. Line your feet astreet, bend your back, Shift your arm, then you pull a clock Like Sergeant O (Oh-Way-Oh) So strike a pose on a Cadillac If you want to find all the cops... Thu Mar 25 2004Susannah Hoffs was one lush babe but the other 3 minged as much as the hideous Runaways and Bananarama. The music was insipid rock lite and the quality of musicianship astonishingly mediocre.
by scarletfeather
Thu Mar 25 2004They were a mediocre mid-80s band, and they are not even as good as Katrina and the Waves, which produced the same kind of lite pablum. Susannah Hoffs voice was slight and reedy. Definitely not a memorable band.

Wed Jul 23 2003The members of the Bangles must have very large extended families with internet access.

Wed Jul 23 2003The summer hit of early 90ies called "Eternal Flame" was for many years my absolute favourite song and it's still one of my all time favourites. :)

Thu Jul 10 2003They are not #3 of all time, that's for sure, but 3 stars it is for a great EP and two solid albums.

Sat Jul 05 2003Can u believe Bangles fans put down their chocolate mint lip gloss and National Enquirer long enough to organize and vote the Bangles to the top three on here..? Was Ricki Lake airing re-runs ? Some of them have written, "What a great band".. Are they putting Prozac in your water? Are you part of some scientific experiment ? Will the Archies be next ? Give me a break. They stunk.. May they Walk like an Egyptian off a short pier. It was never anything but awful, overrated pop music. Nothing remotely new or original. The singer was a hottie. Can't think of anything more positive than that..
by bouttheart
Sun Jun 22 2003Evidently the Bangles fan club must have united to all give these chicks a 5 because they have more ratings than anyone on here..and they absolutely SUCKED !! Walk Like an Egyptian was a great song. It should rank right below the theme from the Flintstones. Thank God they get no more airplay.. Oh and that Manic monday.. another great one.. only Prince wrote it and gave it to them but only after the hottie singer gave up her booty.. There's a word for someone who trades sex for monetary gain.. Now let's see what is it ??? It's a shame I can't give a zero for this crap.. Oh ay Oh !!!

Thu Jun 12 2003I liked walk like an eygption and eternal flame but they aren't that good at all.

Thu Jun 05 2003I am new to this site and was surprised to see the Bangles up here. During their "Walk Like An Egyptian" and "Eternal Flame" phases, they came to be seen as pop chicks. But when their full first album came out, the Bangles were cool as sheeit. Very good songwriters themselves, they also had the sense to complement their own material with top-flight songs by others - Jules Shear, Alex Chilton, even some good Prince stuff. All delivered with a Beatle-y guitar-pop sensibility and musical restraint characteristic of the genre. It was a shame that the suits got to them and tried to turn them into a Susannah Hoffs vehicle. That was the death of them. In reality they were a great modern guitar pop band. Get their first album "All Over The Place"; it's one of the best records of the 1980's.

Mon Jun 02 2003NOT A HALF BAD GROUP--THEIR MUSIC STICKS EVEN TODAY.
by bugahane
Sat May 24 2003ROFL !!!! Somebody must be doing some serious automated rating or something fishy. There is no way The Bangles are #4 all time, in the company of The Beatles,Led Zepplin, etc. I do not dislike them, "Walk like an Egyptian" was catchy for a few weeks when it first came out.
by deathrattle
Fri May 23 2003I can't believe this many people like this 80's flop group. Can you say GO GOs wannabees. All very simple, very plain, and very lame songs. That's why they're on all those 80's albums with Culture Club, Fine Young Canabals, etc. They were here, and then, they were gone. Thank God because the Bangles were just another ingredient in the disease of cheesey music.

Sun May 11 2003the bangles were suzanne hoffs period, what a babe and they rode her looks.
by kingronnie
Thu May 08 2003A few catchy pop tunes, they had there day and if it were'nt for eternal flame they'd be forgotten by now
by jpdols
Fri May 02 2003The Bangles aren't that bad but to rate them so high is completely ridiculous. They had a couple of hit songs and there lead singer was hot but that's about it. Did they change the music industry or something?
by cordzk
Wed Apr 30 2003Actually, I don't think they are terrible, but they cannot rank above Stones, Elvis, Clash, etc.
by leroyneiman
Tue Apr 29 2003I loved these girls!
by mknzy_of_ca_lhoun
Fri Apr 25 2003I would give them a 3 or a 4, but they really don't deserve to be this high up on the list. Sheesh, 3 or 4 good songs back in the day and they make it to #3. This is ludicrous. I would have expected AC/DC up somewhere around here, and that would have been understandable, but they're #82. The Bangles? Number three?! That's insane!
by dasha12
Tue Apr 22 2003WHO???? How did they even get on this list?
by tritonagain
Thu Apr 10 2003I'm only rating them this high because Vickie Petterson once let me buy her a beer. She's adorable.

Thu Apr 03 2003The fact that they're on here at all is hilarious!
