so beautiful.I went up Sulphur Mountain on a gondola and the view of Banff below and the mountains is breathtaking.I'd love to go again.

The mountains surrounding Banff have a sort of powerful beauty to them that's almost palpable.  As I walked through Banff, I stumbled onto a male and female elk, eating shrubs along one of the main streets.

Oh, I love Banff. I live in Calgary too, and I make it a point to go at least twice a year.

I've lived in Calgary my whole life and I continue to be amazed by Banff everytime I go. It CAN be expensive, but it doesn't have to be. You just have to know where to go. The Hostel is nice and it's $25 a night. The Red Carpet Inn is also pretty nice and one of the lower priced hotels. Also, if you're not into hardcore hiking, Tunnel Mountain is close to the town site and a fairly easy hike, as is Norquay - a nice place to go for a picnic and you can drive all the way up. It has a fantastic view. For dubber check out The Grizzly House. It is AMAZING! Well worth the money, though it is quite expensive. You can try elk and bear meat in a very authentic atmosphere. Reserve early. If that's not your style, Melissa's also has really excellent food. For night life, Wild Bill's is good, they have bands on weekends, more pub than club. If you're looking for a club atmosphere, Aurora is wild! Check out the Banff Hot Springs, nothing is better after a hike!

MUST SEE. So many things to do in this beautiful park. Top Attractions. 1. Banff Townsite. 2. Lake Louise Lake 3. Peyto Lake 4. Banff Hot Springs 5. Vermillion Lakes 6. Johnson's Canyon (hidden treasure of waterfalls) 7. Highway 1A (wonderful assortment of wild life) 8. Lake Moraine (go after June or no water in lake) 9. Gondola Ride to the top of Sulpher Mountain (or even better hike up Sulpher Mountain and take the Gondola down free) 10. Hoodoos on Turtle Mountain in Banff townsite. PS: Stay at Johnsons Canyon Resort for a really spectacular authentic Canadian holiday experience... stay in wooden log cabins under Castle Mountain.

When I first saw Banff, I remember thinking that it was so gorgeous that it couldn't be real. Everything about the place reminded me of images on a postcard. The mountains, the trees, Lake Louise... I have done a lot of traveling around North America, and I can safely say that Banff was the most scenic place I have ever seen. By far.

I worked there for the summer.. it is a gorgeous park!! The town of Banff is however a bit too crowded for me, but there is so much to do in the area like hiking, skiing, rafting, caving... Things are a bit more expensive, but it has to be expected as it is a national park and fairly isolated from larger centers. Without a doubt the most beautiful scenery I've ever seen!

any place where there's sign's saying "you may get raped by a caribou" isn't my kinda spot....well now that i think about it....

Banff is one of the most beautiful places I've seen. The town itself is a tourist town, nothing more to it than that. But there aren't many towns where you just might walk around a corner and find yourself face to face with an elk -- in Banff, that's a very real possibility. No matter which direction you face, a spectacular mountain fills the sky. That's just the town. The park, itself, Canada's first national park, is so very much more. Its 2,500 square miles are threaded with hiking trails, and most of its land is wild and lonely. As a non-hiker, I've seen very little of the park's wilderness, but even the more populated areas are enough to fill me with awe.

You have to separate Banff National Park from the town of Banff. The town is a typical tourist town -- lots of expensive shops selling souvenirs -- maybe not so typical, though, because not too many tourist towns have elk wandering through them! Look beyond the town, look at the incredible Rocky Mountains surrounding the town. The park is much more than the town, and you'll never find more beautiful country.

Not necessarily the most beautiful place overall, and its too touristy now, but it's got the most beautiful mountains in the world. Period.

Beautiful park definitely worth visiting. while you're in the area you should check out Jasper as well. Especially good for Americans considering the exchange rate.
