Great sendup of the martial-arts and action movies. Pretty funny overall. Kurt Russell does his over-the-top John Wayne imitation which is apropriate in this film. Good fun is had by all.

Jack Burton: Would you just stop rubbing your body up against mine, because I can't concentrate when you do that.

I always did like Lo-Pan. I can really identify with his thing for girls with green eyes.UPDATE: I'm nominating David Lo-Pan for best villain of the '80s...

One of the funniest movies of the '80s...and of all time for that matter. Kurt Russell is absolutely hilarious and doesn't make a good fit in Asian culture and Asian ways and that's part of why it's so funny. The movie harmoniously fuses comedy, suspense, and action into one.

One of the Top Five "good bad" movies ever made. Starts mysteriously, and ends the same way. Certainly one of Kurt Russell's better-known roles (which he may only sheepishly acknowledge), playing the fun-loving, hard-charging long-haul trucker Jack Burton better than anyone else could've (although you'd swear he was channeling John Wayne from the first frame). Carpenter was given the chance to do something unique, and he succeeded on all fronts with this picture; lots of action, intrigue, comedy, special effects, and an unknown (in America, anyway) line-up of international martial artists at their best. Mr. David Lo Pan might just be one of the all-time best villains (with Egg Shen playing his "Sherlock"). Sprinkle in Kim Cattrall (at her Kim Cattrall-iest) as Jack's confounding love interest, and this is one that can't miss. Not exactly Tolstoy, but it doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is: a fast-and-furious detour through a maze of mystic mayhem!

Lo-Pan is my hero. As is Jack Burton. I love this movie so much. If you Like AoD or laughing in general, you'll like this movie.

What is this, two girls with green eyes?! I will marry them both! Shut up Mista Burton! Son of a bitch must pay! Indeed! ooh Mao Yin, I need you Mao yin! The guys just stands there, waiting for me to drive my truck straight through him with light coming out of his mouth! You leave Jack Burton alone! He showed great courage.

Kurt Russell's best film by far, he played the ultra cocky buffoon to the hilt. Though a departure, you still see some of Carpenters distinct camera style (the quick shot of the three gang members streaking out of the underground garage etc.) I've heard talk of a sequel though I hope not, it's perfect on it's own.

Big Trouble In Little China (released in 1986) is a completely over the top adventure film directed by John Carpenter which keeps the tongue firmly planted in cheek. For the uninitiated, the plot of the film is focused on John Wayne wannabe truck driver Jack Burton (played perfectly by Kurt Russell) who is thrust into the mystic world of Chinese magic and mythology in San Francisco's Chinatown. Burton and his cohorts (eg Dennis Dun as Wang Chi, Victor Wong as Egg Shen, and Burton's love interest Gracie Law played by Kim Cattrall) must rescue a damsel in distress while fighting off the 3000 year old Chinese warlord Lo Pan (James Hong) and his three primary minions, Thunder, Rain and Lightning (who have the respective powers of their names). The action is frenzied, lighthearted and very similar to the 1984 film The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension! In fact it is my understanding that Big Trouble was originally supposed to be the sequel to Banzai; however, in my ... Read more

this movie is awesome. it's an irreverent ride of great fun and entertainment. very comic bad guys and a cliche action hero, but i suppose it was intended that way and that's why they picked kurt russel. this movie will always be a classic to me.

Way too over the top, and boring for me. Special effects are very limited, as well as any good acting.

The GREATEST ACTION ADVENTURE FILM EVER PUT TO CELLULOID!! Just kidding. This should be in the comedy section besause this flick is funny as a barrel of monkeys. Watch this film souly for the scene where Kurt Russel shoots his gun over his head which makes the a chunk of stone crack him on the head resulting in his two minute K.O. This is one funny movie. I just hope it was intended to be. Lots of goofy characters like the three electric Raiden men with their hue hats, the giant floating eye thing, the hairy monster that looks realy cool but gets zero screen time, the old man with cheese skin and of course the goofiest of them all, Kurt Russel. If the film makers of this movie were trying to make a seriouse action movie, they missed the mark by miles. If they were trying to make a very entertaining, low on substance high on the cheese and fun factor movie then they hit the nail right on the head. This movie is dumb as a brick but more fun than you can shack a stick at. If you want a go... Read more
