Mon Feb 01 2010I love empanadas and this place has the very authentic salteñas style beef empanadas.. And I just find out that they are open for brunch with the "ASADO LIBRE." Where you can eat all the meat you want including chorizo, asado de tira, short ribs, morcilla, entraña, fries, salad and chimichurri... for just $22 plus a glass of Malbec. They also have GAUCHA BERGER with Provensal fries. This place is heaven!! I won't miss anymore my Buenos Aires Querido...

Sun Jan 31 2010If you don’t have brunch plans, Azul offers... “all you can eat” brunch menu for $21.95. YES ALL YOU CAN EAT FOR $21.95!!! And you can find great bottles of Malbec wine for under $35. I love this little restaurant.....

Sun Jan 31 2010I just went to Azul for the first time the other night. It was fantastic! The food and wine were both outstanding and well priced. The atmosphere is fun, open and noisy when it gets crowded. I will go back over and over.

Sun Jan 31 2010I recently went to Azul Bistro for dinner. Me and my friends we had a great time. The steaks are simply amazing! and decently priced. The service is good, and the atmosphere is awesome! This is definitely becoming my favorite steak restaurant a in NY.

Mon Dec 28 2009It's very warm place. Excellent and friendly service and the best : The Steak, sausage, empanadas... This is real argentinian food.

I tried a lot of restautant but this one is the one of the best... I like most is that they serve asado libre which is more meat..more protein and less carbs..they do serve very good french fries..and fresh salad..mmmmmm..I will definitely come back at this place..the host rocco was very friendly also the other staff..I laugh a lot that sunday..thanks azul.for the great week-end.

Sat Jan 24 2009very disappointing. service was impersonal and not efficient (i could deal with one or the other but there was nothing redeeming in it) Meat was not cooked as we ordered it, did not taste like it was marinated as advertised and the short ribs were tough and almost inedible. appetizers were good as was the wine.

Tue Jul 31 2007Small; open-air in the summer. Delicious food and reasonably-priced wines make this a great spot to go with friends and eat eat eat! The steak is delicious!

Wed Feb 21 2007I live in the neighborhood. There are not many good restaurants around here, unless you're willing to spend a loooooooooooot of money. Maybe I was lucky ( I always go early, from 6 to 7:30), but one of the reasons that I always come back is due to service. I like the girls, they are attentious without being pushy. The food is great, and they have good desserts. Only two things they could improve: variety in the menu and the size of the portions.

Thu Feb 08 2007I went here on a date a few weeks ago. Number one for this place, Make a Reservation!! It's small, and it's nearly impossible to be seated within a reasonable amount of time without one. We went at 7:30 on a Friday night, and we got seated right away. The two of us shared this amazing sirloin steak and a bottle of red wine. It was divine! The staff smiles away like they know it's good and move at the speed of light. Watch your half-eaten plate, or they'll grab it! We each spent about $40 and it was a really enjoyable experience.

Wed Nov 15 2006I've had one meal at Azul. I made the mistake of ordering ribs which were over-cooked and chewey. My friends ordered steak for 2 which was great. So if you do decide to check it out, be sure to order the steak. I went back for another try and made a reservation for 10:15 only to arrive and be told our table wouldn't be ready for at least 15 minutes. There were several other parties waiting as well. 10:30 came and went, and we got frustrated and left to grab a slice instead. I'd recommend getting an earlier dinner and not being around when it becomes a scene at night unless you have ample time to spare.

Thu Oct 12 2006Manhattan has no shortages of steakhouses or bistro. Steak is almost as common as bottled water these days. That being said, I love the steak at Azul and keep returning because of it. I need not say anything else...just go.

Thu Aug 03 2006They should be Spanish ecleptic new extravaganza cuisine, not argentinian .This is not argentine food.A place for customer ,who just does not kwow what aargentin food is.These owners are AMATEURS

Sun Jul 30 2006If you like good food and good service do not go to Azul, Is not the place to have a nice dinner. The service is not better and the price it is expensive. Not recomended

Thu Jul 27 2006I went to Azul and i really can tell is not recomended place to have a nice dinner. The waites are not friendly and the push you to live even if you do not finish. The food is below average. In my opinion not recomended.

Mon Jul 10 2006Relax about the service, its a little spot on the LES, run by kind of ditsy, cute Latin girls. No one at Azul has ever been rude to me. On the contray, the hostesses are always so nice that it doesn't seem to bother me that they are really pretty terrible at their job. The food is solid and the vibe is great. Good Malbecs on a reasonable wine list. They do tend to overcook their steaks so just order really rare and they will be good. Don't go when you don't time for a slow evening. I live about 15 feet away and I am really glad its in the neighborhood.

Sun Jul 09 2006So, I often ban places if their service stinks because this is nyc and I refuse to give money to places that have bad service and make the owner rich, rich, rich! But this place I can't seem to ban. I love the food! The skirt steak with the chimmichuri and mashed potatoes is to die for! However, I have been here about 15 times so far and the service has been horrible each time! You are constantly seated in the worst seat, reservation or no reservation! If you request a seat you will be denied and that seat will remain open for the length of your stay. You will be greeted with rude servants and a rude hostess! You will be lied to about seats being reserved for other people when you make a reservation yourself and it seems like you are just being seated as any other walk in would. People will be seated before you who came in after you, without reservations! And you will be rushed through your dinner. The last time I went there my friend literally was playing tug of war with the waitress... Read more

Sat Jun 17 2006Regarding the appetizers, I'd get the empanadas, the beef one was outstanding, best empanada I've ever had, the cheese one was good but more pedestrain. Did not try any other appetizers. Beef is the only way to go at this place. The other offerings are really there to allow for people in a party who don't like beef. We had the Marinated grilled and sliced Sirloin: outstanding. Steak purists might not like it because it has been marinated for 24 hours so it has a lot of flavors along with the beef. We all found it outstanding. The best dessert was this crepe filled with caramel (not sure of the name) Service was decent. I did not experience the bad service other talk about on this site but looking around at how busy they were I can see this happening. Everyone should remember also that beef quality is not uniform. You can go to Luger's and have a bad steak (not often). Ours was outstanding last night but when you order steak you are rolling the dice, because not the butcher, the buyer... Read more

Tue May 09 2006This place is adorable and has such a great Latin vibe. That being said if you're looking for great food and service, this is not the place for you. Goat cheese salad had about an oz. of goat cheese (but they did bring more when I asked!). Our waitress kept forgetting our drinks. My trout was swimming in salt. BUT!! The vibe in this place is great - great music, staff is very friendly, local crowd, and you feel a little like you're in upscale Mexico. My friends and I had a great time here on a Tuesday night and by 9:30 the place was hopping. This is a great place for a lite dinner and casual drinks - nothing gourmet. P.S. they only serve wine & beer so plan accordingly.

Tue Nov 29 2005Hi all, I've been there a few times and the food is always great! The truth is that the service is POOR and not well-trained. I recommed the provolone as a start and the cortada is DELICIOUS!! If you don't want to spend a lot of money in a dinner, don't go there.

Sat Nov 19 2005I bring all friends, business associates, and relatives to Azul for dinner because the food is consistently amazing and we always have a great time. The cuts of meat are fantastic and my favorite are the mashed potatoes, soo good. The waiters are extremely nice and they already know that I must have the dessert every time I go, they are incredible, especially the flan. Look up at the ceiling when you go, it's quite an eyefull.

Sat Oct 08 2005Azul practically specializes in steaks, but somehow the two that we tried were really bungled. I started my meal with a lovely Tomato and Bread soup - a potent and salty creation with chunks of fresh tomatoes and bread cubes. I was off to a great start. Unfortunately my shell steak was not nearly as good. The cut iteself was odd, with very thin ends and slightly thicker center; and the meat was overcooked, a medium-well, as opposed to the medium-rare I asked for. My friends had the sirloin for two, which had too many gristly bits and was also overcooked. Oh well, there're plenty of places to get good steaks in the area.

Wed Jun 08 2005I just went to Azul for the first time the other night. It was fantastic! The food and wine were both outstanding and well priced. We had a big group and they had our table ready for us when we got there because we had reservations. The service is very European - they only come around when you need something and more importantly, they leave you only to enjoy the company of your friends. If you like a server who is constantly over your shoulder and there for your every need, this is not the place for you. The atmosphere is fun, open and noisy when it gets crowded. I will go back over and over.

Sat Mar 26 2005We made a 10pm reservation on a Saturday night. No one greeted us for 10 minutes, however our name were in the reservation book. As we waited, we were able to watch the chaotic mess of service unfold. The tiny bar was not serviced1 of 2 waiters would randomly jump back and tend bar. When a 2-top finally opened up and it was our turn, the disorganized 'host' sat a couple who had come in AFTER us with NO reservations!! I had to run after him, making a scene, telling him it was unacceptable after a 40 minute wait--and that he had to ask the couple he seated to get up and give us the table (he did). All-in-all, a bad start. Although the food and atmosphere were good, the service never improved. Oh yeahand reservations? Dont bother because you wont get any priority over walk-ins.

Mon Jan 24 2005This is a lively, boisterous place with decent food and lots of atmosphere (this is the Lower East Side, after all). The wait-staff is busy, but they make a sincere effort to pay attention to customers' needs. The steak, lamb, and potatoes are excellent, but some of the other meats are just so-so. The wine list has many decent, affordable options that go well with the grilled meat. Expect a short wait for your table, even if you have a reservation.

Mon Oct 18 2004Yummy food, cute cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Lower east side is really pulling thru with some good restaurants.

Mon Jul 12 2004The Filet was cooked to perfection with a lovely Chimichurri sauce but if you LOVE Mash Potato this place is an absolute must. Need I say more. More Mash Potato Please!

Sun Apr 25 2004Arrive late, stay long. Your date is going to be impressed. Relax and drink a lot of the well priced red wines. I was real happy to go to a place that didn't rush us, had wonderful ambiance, a delicous menu of food and wine and some of the friendliest service. Seriously, the wait staff is on. They are not new to the demands and tastes of a client that is simply looking for a wonderful dinning experience. That's because they are not new to this, they are veteran people that know what they're doing.

Wed Apr 21 2004Azul is one of those restaurants that gets busy because the other better restaurants nearby have filled up. The food is always just mediocre and it's really noisy when the tables get filled up. also, we waited 30 minutes for our entree - were they catching the fish in the kitchen??

Tue Apr 20 2004The Scene Inspired by nearby Clinton Street's newfound status as a culinary destination, a different breed of Lower East Side restaurant is popping up faster than you can say "Wylie Dufresne." Among this new school is Azul Bistro, which brings South America to Stanton Street, with seduction-ready dim lighting and soft tango music. The Food Azul's focus is on the food of Argentina, but other South American standbys like ceviche and empanadas appear on the menu too. A beet and avocado salad simply dressed with an herb-infused oil shows off late summer's bounty nicely, but the skimpy size is a little disheartening. Good entrees include lamb as well as steak frites with garlicky chimichurri sauce, but the sea-salt-baked trout is just that: salty. Stick to drinks like the tart watermelon sangria, or go straight for dessert. The creme brulee with dulce de leche is silkier than a slow jam and big enough to share.

Sun Mar 14 2004Perhaps the staff read some of the previous reviews of poor service, since they treated us well. Though portion size is definitely smaller than American, its enough to eat. The steak for two was delicious, the octopus and chorizo appetizers were very tasty, and my dulce de leche dessert was delicious. The Argentinean Pino Noir was a subtle, tasty complement to the meal. Nice vibe, mixed crowd and good ambience. Good for a date or chilling with a friend. Check it out.

Thu Sep 11 2003I'm not a huge meat eater, so when I'm in the mood for steak, it better be good. I was so impressed with the hanger steak at Azul Bistro...cooked perfectly, in a great sauce, didn't even need the chimichurro sauce served on the side. The portions were huge, the ambience romantic...the food and wine delicious. I was ambivalent about eating there at first, but the expereience changed my mind.

Tue Jun 24 2003i will give it this much, this restaurant looks fantastic and the ceiling is oh so nicely decorated. however, i found the food mediocre, not to mention overpriced. like the citysearch reviewer says, the trout is just that, "salty", not to mention terrible and not fresh. i suppose this is the lesson one could learn for going to an argentinian restaurant and ordering fish. stick with the meat dishes, and you'll be safe.

Fri Jan 24 2003Great ambiance, great service, WONDERFUL FOOD. From their Churrasco to their empanadas through their fish, everything is absolutely delicious. Waitresses and waiters have always a smile on their face, even when we recognize a famous Colombian actress among them! The wine list is not their forte I would say. Their offers for 30 dollars are the 6-7 $ you usually get among Argentinian wines, they're ok, it's too bad that they do not include any Chilean. If you are in the area, and want to have dinner before or after going to the movies at Sunshine cinema, or just some of the new bars in town, this is definitely a great place.

Thu Jan 23 2003Excellent food, excellent service. No attitude. Very reasonably priced. Nice decor. Great place for those who just want good food, but without a scene, excess noise, attitude, or a lot of expense. This place really deserves a loyal following.

Fri Nov 29 2002Nice addition to the neighborhood. Intresting place, great pictures of locals and shops, good service and decent food. Its not that it was bad it just wasnt that great... The breaded steak/mashed was bland and plain. The Chilean seabass was an ecclectic combination aimed for the patron who loves latin flavors. I imageine with time the place will grow and the menu will develop.

Fri Oct 25 2002The food and atmosphere was excellent, however, the service was weak. To be fair, they were quite busy on a weekend night, but it was obnoxiously evident that our table was consistently forgotten about it. We were sat by the door with other better open tables available. When we asked to be re-seated at one of the other open tables, the host lied about the open tables. Tisk, tisk...

Sun Aug 25 2002I never feel strongly enough about a place to actually want to give it a review, but I ate at this little place last Saturday night with some friends and I loved it. The staff is friendly and nice, and the food tastes like it should cost a lot more than it does. I had the gnocchi with rabbit and it was delicious. One friend had a steak from Argentina that actually tasted like real steak. Another friend ordered a whole roasted fish (head and all), which was also really good. Best part: I had a great meal and drank a lot of wine and didn't feel guilty when the check came. I'm coming back, and bringing friends. Thanks for a great meal and a great time!

Fri Jul 26 2002Great cuisine from Argentina, from the same owners as Nove Cento in Soho. Superb service. Excellent seafood (crab) dishes, and of course the steaks. Very good wine list as well.
