Better than most of the stuff you pay for, does not bog down your computer like McAfee (for example) does....all the protection you need at an unbeatable price.

When I switched many years ago from the Norton commercial antivirus software AVG, I immediately realized the enormous difference in performance. The computer slowdown during the regular scan became less visible, and amount of software crashes significantly decreased. Since than, I belong to the group of the active supporters of the freeware antivirus solution, in general, and AVG Free, in particular. The group of the AVG users is big (about 80 millions) and is growing. I would like to admit that I never used any other competitive freeware products, and that is probably not very leveraged approach, if you always strive for the best. But, if you completely satisfied with product, it takes an effort and time to uninstall the existing utility and try another one. As you understand, it is highly not recommended running multiple antivirus utilities at the same computer. I love how it's free, and that it automatically starts scanning and updating as soon as you turn on your system. The only time I clearly got a virus the program detected it right away and cleared it without any trouble. The only problem I had with it was that the newest version can only be run on Window XP or newer OS, and they cut off the support for old Windows so that left my old computer I use for downloading completely unprotected.

I've paid for McAfee (which sucked) and Norton (which was better), but AVG works best... and it's FREE!

I've been using AVG for a couple of years now and couldn't be happier with it. It was also installed as the default anti-virus program on my new computer. It doesn't suck-up the memory when it's running and scoops 'em out of the dirt like Johnny Bench. It automatically up-dates and neutralizes any threat to the vault. I highly recommend AVG for Democrats, Republicans, Commies, Socialists, Greenies, Grizz-ites and lovers of dawg food, alike.

Good if you can't afford any other, as low as Norton if you have the money.
