Avalon (G)

I LOVE this name, but probably wouldn't name my daughter Avalon because people are bound to mispronounce it. It is AH-vah-lon, like the place in King Arthur. But most people seem to think that it is pronounced like the super popular Ava combined with 'lon'

Pretty, but sounds too much like my car.

I first heard this name from a friend. Her baby cousin was given this name. For some reason, I have loved it ever since. According to babynames.com it is of Latin origin, and means "Island", although I think it is also the name of a mythological place as well.

For a girl, this would be nice. Though it would likely be shortened to Ava, which is another nice name.
