Sun Jan 10 2010Renting from Auto Europe in Ireland was the worst car rental experience we've ever had in nearly 20 years of renting in the US and abroad. With reservations and written proof of MasterCard insurance coverage in hand, the Auto Europe affiliate at Shannon airport refused to accept even a phone call from MasterCard in the States asserting insurance coverage. We called Auto Europe; we called our friends who were expecting us; we took the rep's bad advice of get the car now and straighten it out later; and we have waited and waited and waited for Auto Europe to reimburse us the nearly $1000 in extra and unnecessary insurance charges! Several faxes and nearly 20 phone calls later, we have had it--and would advise any traveler to Ireland to book elsewhere!

Sun Mar 22 2009I am a frequent traveller to the US and know how to rent a car. I have used Auto Europe before without any problems in combination with Dollar (New York LaGuardia). Now in February with National however we were forced to take the "pre-paid fuel" option (which was not a real "opion" as we had no choice) so we had to pay $49,18 for a full tank of gas which cost $22 at the pump! According to National that was an obligation from Auto Europe. As there is no refund for gas left in the tank upon return (half a tank because we had to drive very slowly on account of snow) we ended up paying $49,18 for $12 worth of gas!! As this is clearly a ripoff deal between A.E. and National I complained to A.E. and asked for a refund of the $49,18. They replied that I did not have to take that "option" (a LIE!) and that it was a matter of National (2nd LIE)!! This way, with hidden charges, all rental companies can provide low quotes up front! As I have read more complaints for the same matter I can only a... Read more

Tue Nov 25 2008All i have to say is the idiots below me dont know anything about car rentals. Sometimes you are responsible for what you sign for and you`d better owe up to it. I have never had a bad experience with Auto Europe and trust them completely. There prices are great and there service is amazing. Of course sometimes bad thinf=gs can happen (such as breakdowns, a mistake of the agent or the terms being miss read or not read at all) but these are things that cant be helped. GOOD JOB AUTO EUROPE!

Mon Apr 21 2008DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE IF YOU DONT WANT LOOSE YOUR MONEY. 5 months ago in December (winter time here in Europe) I have rented a car in Italy/Bergamo with Auto Europe. The car has been rented with ZERO EXCESS INSURANCE. I travelled from Bergamo to small village in Italian Alps. After 5 days on day of my departure from Italy the car broke dawn. Engine just died when we were about to leave the village and drive to the airport. I rang Auto Europe just to find out that they were not able to provide me with the replacement as they didn't have any offices in that area. They offered to send towing vehicle to collect the broken car and a taxi to take us to the airport in Bergamo (250km away). I have been informed that Auto Europe will pay just 150 euro for the service so at the end I have been left with no choice but to pay additional 150 euro for the taxi. After two weeks I discovered that my credit card has been charged with 130euro. After my numerous phone calls and emails to incompetent... Read more

Sun Apr 06 2008Big Thieves. When I made the online resevation, it was $50 and said that the amount due was zero. However when I rented the car, I had to pay another surcharge of $45. The rental agency told me that it was because I had used autoeurope to book the car. They said that it would not have been the case if I had booked directly through them (and would have costed me $70).... So I ended up paying a lot more for no good reason.... Called up Customer Service, but what can you really expect... Moral of the story: They have a lot of fine print, be careful.

Wed Jul 25 2007The worst car rental experience I ever had -- I was in Ireland late at night and even though I requested an automatic all they had available were standards. My cousin worked for AutoEurope one summer in Porltnad Maine and she said that they have trouble retaining staff and most people there are unexperienced, new and young. This probalby accounts for the errors in my booking and the many other horror stories I heard about this compnay.

Tue Sep 12 2006Just booked a trip from USA to Amsterdam. They were great people to deal with and I had my tickets in hand within 3 days. Special note: JR is a delight to work with.

Thu Nov 17 2005I rented a car in Cyprus via auto-europe. When I got the car I was asked to pay an extra $50 up front for fuel, although the voucher from auto-europe specifically said I had to return the car with a ful tank. I returned the car with a full tank and was not reimbursed for the fuel. I contacted auto-europe by email, and they said there is nothing they can do about it, and blamed me for not mentioning that I am returning the car with a full tank. Since the total rental price was $125, the extra $50 was a real cheat.

Mon Apr 17 2000Good service and selection. Renting cars in Europe is pretty expensive (I think) but their prices were on par with others and it was very easy to reserve from the states.
