Wed Dec 10 2008Audio Technica ATH-A700 Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones With Double Air Damping I've had these for about a week so far and they are simply amazing. My old Sony DJ headphones needed to be replaced and I searched for a long time before I had decided on these. The quality is simply amazing if you are a hardcore audio fanatic. If you are planning on buying a pair for FLAC and V0 formats, you cannot go wrong, they sound crystal clear. These headphones do not flaunt their ability to cancel out outside noise, but I'm very impressed of how much it actually does cancel out, if I am listening to music at a normal volume, I cant hear any little distractions like the phone ringing or the TV in the background. The comfort level is superb, my ears are comfortable the entire time i wear them (which is almost all day). Also, what is really nice is the cord is braided which makes it very hard to tangle the wires, definitely a plus. The price of these headphones are confusing... I'm wondering how I p... Read more

Sun Dec 07 2008This is my first high-end headphones and i have to say, I am completely blown away. I originally bought these to compliment a high-end gaming and music computer that i built and it is a wonderful addition. As other reviewers have mentioned, these cans are geared more towards higher frequencies. Rock, Techno and Acoustic Guitar all sound excellent; the high notes are crisp and clear. The bass response is slightly muted compared with high frequency, and it never overpowers the guitars. Although I listen to quite a bit of hip-hop and rap and they sound great. But if you are looking to truly experience the rumbling effect from deep bass beats, you might want to look at other cans. The cans are fairly large and completely enclose my ears. I wear glasses and it does get a bit uncomfortable during long gaming sessions; as the cans are held into place by horizontal pressure and press the frame tighter onto my head. They also cause sweat to accumulate around ears, if you wear them for a ... Read more

Thu Nov 27 2008I purchased these headphones to replace my aging (and falling apart) Bose Triports. Their primary use is for PC gaming and music listening, and they are powered by an X-fi ExtremeMusic soundcard. When I first started listening to them I noticed right away that they were very bright - almost too much so. And despite their enormous earmuff-like girth, the bass response was a little weak. After a bit of tweaking in my sound settings, both of those problems were for the most part tameable. After a couple days of getting used to them, I really did come to like the sound they produced. They have a much larger sound stage than the Triports did, and it makes games and music seem more alive. Bass, while not overpowering, is perfectly serviceable. But I still have gripes with them. Since we have a television in our office, often times my headphones have to compete with tv shows, as well as the wifes computer - hence the decision to go with a closed style. The Triports did an excellent job... Read more

Sat Nov 15 2008SUMMARY With excellent sound fidelity and a wide sound stage these are a great pair of headphones for the price (current street around $120 US). My only quibbles come from the mechanical design of the headset which leads to unwanted sounds when listening at low volume levels. If subtle extraneous sounds don't bother you, then they may be perfect for you. PROS Excellent sound quality - Extremely wide soundstage, clear instrument separation and strong, but clean bass. Extremely comfortable - Very little pressure around the ear and the headband system doesn't have any hot spots. Great cord - Long cord allows for some mobility and the woven fabric sheath doesn't transmit sound when bumped. CONS Mid-range lacking - May sound like equalizer is on "U" shape. Not as "smooth" as the Sennheiser HD-280. Noisy headband - Creaking sound transmits through headband system into the ear cups. Fine if you keep still, but when you move around you may hear creaking sounds. Poor insulating pa... Read more
