Tue Feb 16 2010This is one unexplained mystery that does interest me, though some people's theories are absolutely ridiculous. I accept that it's possible that the Atlantean's technology may have seemed advanced, but we're talking about 11,000 years ago according to this item... which makes it all very relative. There is a lot of doubt over where Atlantis really existed as the first mention of it was by Plato, though it is claimed the story originally came from Egypt. Tempted to talk a lot more about this one, but I won't :P

Fri Feb 05 2010I think that most Historians consider Atlantis to be something that Plato pulled out of his ass. Yeah, there are writings about it, but no evidence that it actually existed. I just hope that hundred of years from now, Historians and conspiracy theorists devote as much time looking for Neverland or Oz.

Fri Feb 05 2010It's plausible and possible. It's just not such a huge mystery or eerie feel to it.

Thu Apr 23 2009Some vague writings from Plato (not all of what he wrote was brilliant) combined with hokey 19th-century-esque Victorian sensibilites of utopia gave this overrated legend new life that springboarded it into the 20th century. Nah. Plato mentions it but there's no steak to the sizzle, kids. . .

Fri Jun 13 2008Worthy of more extended study and less speculation. There are indeed historical documents that mention the name and a possible location, but the known configuration of the physical features of the Atlantic Ocean makes it's location elusive. The fact that there are no known attempts to actually sail westward in ancient times in fear of falling off the edge of the world, makes it even more elusive. The truth must be out there, somewhere. But we still don't have it.

Fri Jun 13 2008Aristotle must have had some reason to consider it and seismic activity is not unknown to happen.

Sun Feb 24 2008Plato had a great imagination, after all, he was...Plato! There are interesting structures under water in the Caribbean which could be "Atlantis", interesting nonetheless.

Sat Jun 03 2006They probably let people like Bush and Cheney run things. That'd explain their sinking.

Tue Sep 28 2004The subject of Atlantis isn't particularly interesting to me. It just seems like a myth taken way too seriously.

Mon Aug 30 2004Atlantis is not real. It was created by Plato to show his pupils what he thought the prototypical society should be like. Very similar to Thomas Moore's Utopia.

Mon Jan 12 2004I think the refugees from Atlantis landed in Jersey and built Atlantic City. Hey, its as logical as the rest of the mumbo-jumbo about this place.

Tue Nov 11 2003Pfft. This story was based almost wholesale on the Minoan civilization of the island of Crete, located off Greece. They were said to be very advanced, but were wiped out by a volcanic eruption. But I do like their Coca-Cola, and the antebellum mansions are very gorgeous...oh wait, that's Atlanta. Hee hee.

Sun Jul 27 2003It is entirely possible that a city like Atlantis could have existed all those years ago.

Tue Jul 22 2003This isn't even a mystery. The "Lost City Of Atlantis" is a Greek myth that Plato or some Greek Chinaman made up and he KNEW it was a myth! There is no chinese "Lost City Of Atlantis."

Sat Jul 05 2003You're all wrong. let me tell you what really happened. Plato was at a party, and got REALLY wasted. While he was drunk, he made up this crap story about some island that sunk in the sea, and wrote it down. he and his friends thought it was hilarious. It's all just a joke. Plato got wasted with his friends and had a good time.

Wed Jun 25 2003Not enough evidence for the existance of an actual Atlantis, per se, but there are other cities which sank into the sea which are fairly well-preserved. This mystery isn't nearly as interesting as some of the others lited here, though.

Fri Jun 20 2003The most advanced civilization ever or a figment of Plato's brilliant mind. If proven, it would definitely be a history changer. There is not much strong evidence though. There is a pretty cool stone road under the sea of Bimini that some people belive may be associated with Atlantis, but so far this is it.
