Sat Sep 20 2008oooo the butternut squash soup was amazing; i had no idea it would taste so great. it kind of reminds me of Indian Curry. we ordered a grilled artichoke as an appetizer and it was okay but i definitely favored the soup above that. i forgot what i had for a meal but i remember my significant other giving me a bite of his Thai BBQ and that was YUMMY... well, it had to have been good 'cause it made me forget what i had ordered. :) i don't remember how the service was; i was too busy giving my food the attention it deserved. ^_^ 2007/08/13 - i just remembered, all i had was a grilled artichoke to share (add some lemon for flavoring) and the butternut squash. yep, i definately need to o back for more. yummy!

Thu Jul 26 2007This has got to be the best food I have ever had in my life! Great prices too! I live in Sacramento CA and I have never felt like I needed to drive 2 hours just to eat somewhere and Asqew Grill makes me CRAVE their food. Everything is grilled so while it is super tasy ,it is super healthy as well. After eating their food you don't feel bogged down and gross. I highly recomend the artichoke starter. It has a sauce I believe called soy beurre blanc...that is absolutely to die for. The sauce is an absolute explosion of flavors in your mouth. I get the artichoke all to myself along with a skewer platter...and I won't share....thats how good it is:-) I have only been to the one location on the marina. I wish they would build an Asqew in or near Sacramento...Anyways you must rty this place! P.S. the banana split is amazing too!

Sun Feb 25 2007Is there anywhere better than Asqew? It's cheap, it's easy, it's healthy, and I could drink their soy beurre blanc sauce by the gallon. I think it's wonderful that it's popping up all over as a chain, even though none of them seem to be quite as good as the haight and castro locations. I've yet to try a dessert b/c I'm always so full from my meal, but they look/sound really good (ie a grilled apple sundae). It's got options for everyone, everything from meat and potatoes to tofu and veggies, all grilled to charry perfection.

Thu Dec 07 2006In Short This Upper Haight eatery draws a dressed-down crowd and the sliding picture window provides prime people-watching opportunities. Order from the counter and take a seat. The menu's specialty is gourmet skewers served with sides such as garlic mashed potatoes and citrus couscous. Options vary depending on availability, but expect dishes like herb salmon dressed with lemon-wine vinaigrette and chicken or beef in a Coca-Cola-based "Thai" marinade.

Mon Mar 20 2006I like most of the sauces and the fish skewers are really good. The chicken is very tender, but the lamb and and beef are too tough and chewy. Mashed potatoes are good, salads are weak. All in all a good spot for under $10. Staff is casual and friendly.

Sun Mar 19 2006While the food is ok, the seating is a problem. Most tables are for two, and there is an unposted rule that you can't sit down at a table till after you order. We didn't know this and were asked to give up our table after waiting 30 minutes for food. We went up the street and found a place where we were treated properly.

Tue Mar 07 2006After shopping on Haight St with my gf and her brother, we were starving and stumbled across this place...it was our lucky day! I had the chicken skewer with the pesto sauce and it was simply AMAZING! I would go back a second, third, fourth,....time.

Mon Aug 15 2005My boyfriend and I are always on the lookout for cheap, healthy, great-tasting food. This was a gem of a find. Particularly nice is the option of half-orders, which is totally adequate if you're not starving. Definitely try the suggested combinations. We'd probably go on a weekly basis if it weren't for the parking hassle in the Haight.

Tue Jul 05 2005Let's get this out of the way: Asqew is great. It simply is. In a hugely expensive city, it's really hard to find a big, satisfying, and rea...

Sun Jun 26 2005This place serves some really good affordable food. The food is fresh, grilled to perfection, and overall excellent. I ordered the half portion for dinner, and it was enough to reach full satisfaction. There's something about their jasmine rice that makes it better than any jasmine rice I ever had. This place is definitely good for the money concious individual who also seeks good healthy flavorful food.

Tue May 24 2005Why is this place so busy? The skewers are essentially flavorless and overcooked and the portions are tiny. I can get a huge plate of stir fried veggies with and rice anywhere in chinatown for a couple bucks and that makes a pretty comparable meal. That's just my take though.

Sat May 07 2005Asqew is aswesome. Try the Garlic Mashe Potatoes with the seared ahi skewer.

Thu Oct 14 2004I love this place. I go to the one on Haight all the time. In the 20 or so times I've gone, I've had dry skewers maybe twice. Sometimes, but not often, they just leave it on the grill for too long. The salads are delicious, as are the mashed potatoes. My favorite was East/West Pork. I considered them as caterers for my wedding, but then I got a dry skewer and I couldn't do it. This is a fantastic value, no doubt. I can accept an off grill now and again when it's such a great deal, and generally very delicious, healthy food.

Wed Jul 07 2004Well my taste buds are more particular than others I guess. My food was just OK they had run out of Beef (this was right after 4th of July weekend) so maybe I was the one that missed out. The Mashed Potatoes are heavenly, the grilled vegetables tasty, Fudge Brownie dessert was YUUUUMMMY, the beer perfect, I had the pesto Chicken and it was okay I would recommend getting the regular order if you are hungry as the Skewers does not have a lot of meat. Service was very nice and accomodating. Now the bad the jasmine rice was sticky and didn't have a good taste, the polenta was so-so but the Marinara sauce was watery and didn't have much *punch*, the corn on the BBQ skewer was gummy.

Thu May 20 2004Nice spot on Haight, try the swordfish, its delicious. If your in Hobson's Choice order from there, if your passing by grab some food(its cheapish) and a beer. Service is good and the customers are'nt all hippies and not your posh Marina types either. Definately a place i will visit again and again and.........

Tue Aug 26 2003a clever concept here...everything on the menu is grilled and served on skewers. skewers run about $6-$8/piece. choices range from salmon to thai chicken. try the mashed potatoes...or the grilled corn. everything is pretty much self serve here(kinda like a cafeteria). a good place to grab a quick bite if you're in a hurry.

Sat Mar 01 2003I read about this restaurant here on CitySearch and decided to take the family there for dinner last night. The menu was very interesting so we ordered the Thai Chicken, Balsamic Beef, Peppercorn Ahi, Grilled Asparagus, and Tofu. What a dissapointment. The large orders came with 2 skewers and had about 6-8 pieces of meat on it. The sauce was all the same, a too sweet version of American Teriyaki. We spent $50 for dinner, nobody was full and went out for Hot Dogs at afterwards.

Wed Jan 15 2003My boyfriend and I stopped by here while we were shopping. The staff was really nice and helpful. I ordered the Texas BBQ chicken, and my boyfriend ordered the east-west BBQ pork. both were delicious and had really different flavors (even though they were both BBQ). We'll definitely return when we're in that area again.

Sat Dec 28 2002The place is cheap, but don't be fooled by the high food ratings. Admittedly, I have only eaten there oncve, but the food lacked flavor, was overcooked and uninteresting.

Wed Dec 25 2002The food is the best you can get for under $10 in San Francisco. I always take guests from out of town to the grill and I have never heard anything but good things.

Sat Nov 23 2002Love this place! Have been to both sites, in S.F., looking forward to going to the new place, in Emeryville.

Tue Oct 29 2002Best place other than Basil on Filmore that I can think of to take a date. Prices are quite affordable, the food is very, very good, and the area's hip enough (nearby bars, a dance club on weekends, etc.) They have vegetarian things, and the service is fast. They also have (good) beer and wine. The place is small, but except on Fri. and Sat. nights the wait is never very long.

Sun Oct 27 2002My friend and I came in hungry and sad from loosing the world series game. The service was a little slow but the food was good.

Tue Oct 15 2002great food, healthy choices, freshly made, friendly service and you can't beat the price! when i'm too lazy to cook, i go straight to Asqew.

Thu Oct 10 2002It's cheap, but not THAT good. Everything's pretty charred, so if that's your thing then go for it. I find it tasty and inexpensive, but not necessarily the #1 good cheap eat.

Wed Oct 02 2002I love this place-haven't been to a place in the city quite like it. In the middle of the Haight Ashbury district, they serve an assorted variety of food that'll cater to vegitarians and omnivours alike. Parking will be hard on Haight Street, and it's usually packed during lunch time. Food isn't the cheapest, but they have a half-plate of everything if you aren't super hungry and a bit low a cash.

Wed Oct 02 2002Asqew has long been a favorite place to eat. They have friendly staff, fresh food, and great prices. I took my father to Asqew a couple of months ago. No whenever he comes to visit me he always wants to eat at Asqew! In San Francisco I have found most "cheap" restaurants do not have food that is actually healthy. Asqew has fresh meat, fish, and wonderful vegatables. if you have not been you need to check it out!

Mon Sep 23 2002Asqew has always been my choice when I need gourmet food on my college student diet. you can get whatever you want for about ten bucks. Plus they serve pabst blue ribbon. Service is friendly and helpful. I reccomend the AHI tuna and the THai Salmon (you have to ask) over garlic mashed potatoes.AWESOME!

Tue Sep 10 2002My husband and I try and find a new restaurant to go to every week, and the reviews for Asquew Grill looked interesting. We were not disappointed. There are a myriad of choices for kebabs. We ordered the ahi tuna and the mahi mahi and both were delicious. We also had the Thai salad and spinach salad which were also yummy. We will definitely go back.

Sat Aug 24 2002Wow! My wife and I eat at Asqew at least once a week if not twice for almost three years. It is great to see a restaurant that is young and not on every street corner (yet?) winning this competition. The staff is outstanding and always friendly. My wife never gets tired of eating their due to all the choices and of course i'm happy with the prices. One last thing the curly haired guy is really handsome!!!

Fri Aug 23 2002Asqew Grill has such a wonderful concept for food that it needs to be in more cities. The garlic mashed potatoes are to die for. Keep up the good work with new and innovative receipes!!!

Fri Aug 23 2002Askew Grill serves gourmet, healthy, creative skewers at a very great price. I love the pepper encrusted ahi tuna and the pesto chicken over garlic mashed potatoes or the spinich salad. The atmosphere is casual and fun. I love that people are enjoying a bottle of wine with their under $10.00 meal. TR, Marina District Askew Patron
