OMG I just got a new Macbook Air today because of the Black Friday sales and I love it!!! It is the most exciting thing I've bought all year. Like every new APple product there is an amazing addictive sensation when you unbox and open it for the first time. Apple products all seem to have a similar smell to them lately too (lol!) - I love it! The only down side is a 1 cm strip of "darker" screen along the bottom of my computer. I've seen this in low-quality/thin displays before, and I am dissapointed to see it show up in a relatively expensive Apple product (you expect the best when you pay for it). I think I will learn to live with it, there are a few compromises to achieve complete mobility and light-weight, but I am dissapointed nevertheless.

I've used mine nearly everyday for the past 2 and a half years, and it hasn't failed me yet! One MAJOR issue is the lame hinges that came with the first generation MBAs... mine are starting to loosen, and I've already had it repaired once. Good news is that Apple replaced them for free (off warranty). The thing must be really defective, though... I'm thinking about having them replace them again before the thing cracks, as I've read in other reviews.

all i have to say after using it is omg this thing is amazing! it is very quick and very light - both important in computing today. i agree with the other reviewers, if you have the means, it is so choice.

update: I was recently laptop shopping and once I got serious about plopping some big bucks down...I opted for the macbook pro instead of the Airbook......more plug ins, still lightweight and durable, and a few hundred less dollars....when it came down to it.....the macbook pro was a better value. A good friend of mine just got one not long ago...so far she loves it. She is still learning the Mac program but she says its a great laptop.

It's a below-average computer in an above-average case. By no means is it a crappy computer... it's decent. But for its price you could get a really great desktop, or a beefed-up regular MacBook. What you're really paying for here is the beauty, and the precision-engineered design. It is pretty much the most gorgeous laptop on the market. Basically, if you want to have a good, fast, high-performance laptop, buy a regular Macbook with all the bells and whistles instead. If you want a really sexy-looking, lightweight, thin laptop, the Air is for you.

This is a decent ultralight laptop -- it's crazy thin, and is constructed out of a block of aluminum so it has exceptional torsional rigidity. Because of this it doesn't feel like plastic junk where you could twist the circuit boards to bits. It has a bright 13" LED screen and full-size, lighted keyboard. The battery is not quickly swappable but it lasts a very long time. The real compromise on this laptop is mass storage, and to a lesser degree performance. It works smashingly as a web browsing, email processing, spreadsheet crunching type of machine. But if you're doing iPhone development or running VMs or any kind of image processing, you're going to be disappointed. There isn't much disk space and the available hard drives that fit into the ultrathin case are small and run at 4200 RPM. If you opt for the SSD drive, you'll be paying a lot of money to get mass storage with no moving parts, but you won't have room for tons of photos, music or video. There's also no DVD drive ... no cd drive, probably 2 USB ports and a battery that must be only about 1 hour at the most.

I don't have one, but I would miss the cd rom slot.

I love thin, light computers. I have a tiny Vaio that I use about 12 hours per day. But I have to knock off two stars for not having a built in dvd / cd drive. I think we're headed towards the day that all media will be consumed online, but we're not there yet. Carrying around a clunky, plugin cd drive component just wouldn't make any sense to me.
