Kinda want to hate you, iPod. You're not very durable, you're way too expensive, you make me feel like a consumer drone, and your battery life is not what it could be. BUT! I can't imagine living without you. (Unless I lived in a place where I needed to have a car, and could thus just listen to satellite radio.) But still, you're pretty cool. Pretty sure God speaks to me through your Shuffle function. (JK, not crazy.) (JK, a little crazy.)

I'm slowly developing the habit, but it still feels more like data processing than musical appreciation to me. With a few thousand albums at my disposal, I can spend weeks putting them on my computer and then regularly move them to my player in anticipation of what I'll want to listen to for the next week or so. Or I can walk into the music room, grab a few discs and slip them in the CD player and hit play. Putting them away can be a bit of a chore when there are 50 of them stacked up by the stereo. We recently plugged a chord into the stereo receiver so that we can play the iPods through the house system. We have speakers wired into four rooms of the house and out on the patio and can turn them on or off as required. We listen to more music than watch TV. In fact the kids are on-line more than they are watching TV. Me too probably. I'm not real fond of walking around with headphones or ear plugs, I feel like I'm tuning the world out and don't care for that. I listen to the m... Read more

I gave my son the iPod touch 8 GB for christmas, and he gave me his old ipod. This is new technology for me, and while I appreciate the advantages, I've never been a fan of listening to music with headphones. I loaded about 50 albums on, and deliberately put stuff on that I hadn't listened to in a while. Its helped me rediscover some stuff I've long liked, but there's something missing in the experience for me. I guess I'm officially a neo-Luddite....

UPDATED:  JANUARY 2, 2009.  I have four IPods;  Nano, 30 gig, 80 gig, and 160 Gig.  They have been trouble free and wonderful devices.  The hook-up with ITunes works well, and both the program and the IPod handle my vinyl records that I convert via my ION analog to digital record player.UPDATE:  I bought an 80 gig model and now I am going to get the 160 gig model as the 80 gig is almost full! ORIGINAL COMMENT:  I have a Nano and I have had nothing but good luck with it. It really enriches your opportunities.

a wretched device.  the deathknell of listening to music for quality or for the scope of an artists' vision.  the ultimate audio toy for an ADD, everything now, afflicted populice.  breaks often.  I've had a discman for 10 years now, and know people who've gone through 2 iPods already.

I don't understand what's so special about it...I had a Ipod nano the older version not the newest and I never really liked it..for 250 bucks for 4gb...I bought the new sansa 8gb for only 99 dollars..and I like it much better...putting the songs on it are not a problem for me I don't really need itunes..I already know so much about downloading things anyways..There the same exact thing just cheaper in my oppinion..but they are good music players.

pinkfreak...no you dont. i previously had a nano and sold it and got an 80gb. you dont have to do any of what you said. but anyway...ipods are great and work perfectly but i am really mad at apple right now because i got  my 80gb this july and paid $350 and now 3 months later they come out with new ipods and the 80gb is only $250 and they have a 160gb for $350. it is terrible they could have at least said 160gb ipod coming soon on the website so i wouldnt have gotten my ipod then but no nothing about new ipods and so i got screwed over. i feel like they stoled $100 or 80gb from me and i am mad. there products work great but this situation is very upseting being that right after i bought my nano generation 1  in 06 the generation 2s came out in 2gb instead of 1gb for the same price. being this has now happened to me twice if i break this ipod i am not buying another mp3 player from apple to replace it no matter what

I Love My IPod!! But The Only thing I dont like is if ur Ipod breaks and u get a new one u cant use the same computer u used for ur other ipod u have to either use a different computer or create a new user name! Plus You have to download all ur songs and videos again!!

I admit, 20GB is quite enough for my use. Not having video on it, the old model that is, is quite a handful of space. The unit is very easy to use, a little on the bulkier end versus the shuffle or the nano for example. It is reliable, but can at times give you a surprise "reboot needed" type of situation. It may at times be in like a coma-state of error, where you'd have to reboot the iPod by holding down the center wheel button and play at the same time, for about 5 seconds. Other than those minor occurrences, the iPod is one of the best electronic technologies fit for the future - with the endless accessories for it, and the furthering use of it in classrooms, schools, and regular music loving life.

Piece of sh-t. Bought it mid-december, warranty for 2 yrs (so 3 total). Had the thing 1 month, went to take the charger out, and the charger part inside the ipod broke off. Sent it in yesterday, they got it today and said it's "accidental damage or misuse- service declined" and they're shipping it back. I had the thing 1 month and it broke. Barely used it....piece of crap.

My new discovery in "06" was the iPod. I couldn't live without my iPod or iTunes now. I'm not much into listening to music through headphones but I have a 'RoadTrip' in my truck and listen to the music I have chosen to put onto my iPod through that. I have about 10 hours of music downloaded so far. Now, I don't have to rely on finding a radio station or carrying a bunch of CD's with me when I'm traveling. iTunes is great and I always have my playlists going when I'm at the computer and am not listening to 'Live 365'. Not to boast or anything but it doesn't hurt to have a good set of speakers on your computer if you listen to music alot while online. I love my Boston Acoustics with a subwoofer. Awesome sound at any volume level.

Im not a huge fan of the circular touch pad nor the fact that my battery dies after 4 hours of use but I wouldn't be able to get through my workouts without it. The storage capacity is great and my fiancee tells me the songs are easy to download on to it... though I've not attempted to do it (too high tech for me...LOL).

Its sure great, I plug it wirelessly to my car via the I-trip and it has given me an outstanding performance. the I-Tunes interface is quite easy but however I find the windows media player way easier. I also use it as a protable hard disk. the battery is quite fine with me so far. note that you must not keep it on the charger like forever this will bust up you battery life time! recharge when needed .. ! I also like the look .. its pretty stylish and what i like most is the accesories of the I-pod you can find it almost every where ... !! I-pod was a complete turnover for apple and .. its quite obvious why ;o) keep it up !

This product is one of a kind. Other companies make mp3 players but none compare to the Apple ipod. It holds so much music, more than the average person has, and its a great place to store music rather than the edgy harddrive of a pc. Everything is designed near perfect on this product, the only downside is the price. But, I found an awesome place to get mine for free. I thought it was a joke but it's real, just check this out and see for yaself. http://GetiPod4Free.com/index.php?referral=3509

BowChikaWowWow , you are an attention seeking rater hater. Hate to be rude, but you are. These are very good machines, and loading songs onto itunes only takes a couple of minutes for say, 20 songs. Loading them onto the ipod takes about 5 seconds! The have great graphics, cool games, and are very easy to use. The are quite heavy duty, and generally really cool! The small disagvantege is that it is quite heavy, and the silver back gets grubby. However, this aside it really is nice. BowChikaWowWow , why did you use something with a cracked screen? It is not Apples fault if you are irresponsible and use a broken machine. I bet the story isn't true, and if it is, you probably stupidly dropped it, by not being careful enough. Your chatspeak also incriminates you. Bridget888, don't be discouraged. Sometimes things just break, as ipods are like mobile phones...they don't live forever. A cool product.

We don't have a lot of money, but my husband really wanted an iPOD. So I got all of our friends and all of our family to give what they could and we bought him one for his birthday. Two months and one year later the hard drive is dead. He treated that thing like a baby, and apple doesn't care that they gave us a defective product. They just kept saying you had a year, like I waited to fix the problem after the warranty ran out instead of before. We cannot afford to repair it (another $260) or to get another one. It seems to happen to everyone we know, the iPOD breaks between the first and second year. $400 just wasted. Apple is never getting my business again.

iPods suck! Go for a Dell DJ! i had one and it dropped on the ground and the screen broke but it would still work then all of a sudden a couple of weeks later it stopped working all together so i go to ipod.com to get a number call it am put on hold so then after 15-20 mins of waiting to talk to someone i talk to them and tell them the code number on my ipod and then after about 10minutes of trouble the guy says do you have an hp ipod? well you have to call them... so i go throuhg the same process and they tell me that they cant be fixed so ur automatically out 300 bux and it scratches super easy and itunes takes forever to load ur music it sucks and its a rediculas price a dell dj is 2/3 the price of an ipod and thats a 100 bux... oh yea and also you have to use itunes to put music on it so if you downoad music form a company other then i tunes or have music saved to you computer on a different program you have to burn them then upload them in to itunes and uploading music in to itune... IPOD = In Put Only Device. I was truly happy when I first got my IPOD .It is beautifully designed . I cant think of another player that fits in the pocket as nice .It has no protruding buttons or levers to break off or snag on to things. The display is nice , easy to read ,the scroll wheel /click wheel works very nicely. The hold button on the top is easy to access and in the right spot. The sound quality is not bad at all (but the equalizer is very limited). The storage space (20 gb )is more than enough for me. The games are okay to pass the time. The aftermarket stuff is plentiful and useful too. So it all sounds great untill. One day you need to get your music off the IPOD and you can not!!!One day your computer crashes , a virus perhaps , maybe your hard drive dies or maybe a power surge just junks your computer entirely. It can and does happen you know.So you get a new hd or a new computer and you just drag n drop your tunes off the IPOD onto your new machine...WRONG!!!!FORGET IT!!!!... Read more

Currently own a 20 GB iPod (gray scroll wheel) and works great. I own a Mac and there is complete harmony between Mac and iPod. The space is wonderful not only for music but I also store large photoshop files on it too. I would highly suggest AppleCare because it is a delicate product. However, I've dropped mine many times and it still works great. It does scratch easily so I would also suggest a protective case. This model is definitely the best bang for your buck in terms of price and storage capabilities. I also would recommend iPod mini (brother-in-law owns one). Apple makes great products so I also recommend their computers too. One note: Many people don't like the earbud ear phones. They feel fine to me but some people will find discomfort especially if you have small ears.

Easy to use for the most part, nice display, but the customer sevice sucks! Mine started freezing up 24/7 and I called apple and they said that next time I called it would cost $50 just for advice. If you are interested in buying one, definitely splurge for the warranties that are available - you'll need them.

Unreplacable internal battery that only has an 18 month battery life. Can only be replaced by shipping it back to the Apple factory at a cost of $249.00 plus shipping !!!! If you call they will confirm all that I have stated and they will even recommend that you just buy a new IPOD as the cost of a new one will be approximately the same as the total cost to replace the battery. Don't believe me ???? CALL THEM AND FIND OUT THE BAD NEWS FOR YOURSELF !!!!

I got one for X-mas, and it's unbelievable. Awesome capacity - mine's 20GB - great sound, plenty of neat features, the list goes on and on. You synch not only songs, but also your address book. It's the perfect extension to iTunes. You can access your songs by playlist, genre, band - the search capacity is awesome, and it needs to be when you're dealing with so many songs. Highly recommended.
