Loved this place! Got there just as it opened for lunch. The chef was stuck on the subway and the owner came out to explain and offer drinks while we waited. The waitress was fantastic. The peolple watching as we waited on comfy sofas outside made the time pass quickly. The food was great and prices comparable to other big city restaurants we have been too. The staff was so friendly, I would recommend this place to my friends.

My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant for Dinner. I must admit we hated the mushroom soup, BUT the waiter (who was absolutely awesome) saw we weren't really touching the soup and offered to bring out a different kind at no additional cost. The soup he brought out was really good and we both ate every bite. The entree was ok too, but the price is definitely on the high end. The atmosphere was nice though.... The experience was definitely...different.

I went to Anjou for a lunch with a friend. The potstickers were drenched in oil and tasted as if they were frozen and reheated. The accompanying sauce would have been bad for Trader Joe's frozen food. I ordered the salad special which was what had drawn us there -- mixed greens with mangoes, tomato, and fresh mozzarella. There was barely any fresh mozzarella, the tomatoes had clearly been frozen because they were still icy, and the mangoes were brown. The portion was small and I was charged $14. My friend ordered 3 rolls of sushi which were mediocre at best. She also ordered 2 ice teas which tasted funny and was charged $3 for each (waitress did not tell us refills were not free). This lunch came to $60 before tip. Most overpriced bad meal I've had in Philadelphia.

Not sure what the owners of Anjou are thinking. I went there for an early dinner in Old City and they informed about the martini specials. The "special" was a mini Martini for 7 dollars of shelf vodka or gin. Kettle one in the miniglass was 9.75. What in gods name are they thinking? Food was basic Asian-Fusion. Good, solid sushi, but small portions. Word to the owners: you cannot compete when you have overpriced portions and tiny watered down drinks. No Wonder your place had 8 people at 630 happy hour. Since you have a worn out theme, you need to seperate yourself from the pack. We went right around the corner to Buddakhan where they dont skimp on drinks or food.

My friends ordered the "Chilean Sea Bass w/ Tarot puree, heart of palm salad, atop a miso glaze [26]," "Pan Seared Red Chile Norwegian Salmon, Sweet peas & couscous in a sun dried tomato, red pepper sauce [22]," "Bi Bim Bap- A medley of vegetable & egg julienne, served with two traditional Korean sauces and a bowl of miso soup (available without beef) [16]." I opted for the "French Cut Chicken Breast, Wasabi gnocchi, wild mushrooms, & asparagus in a sweet garlic ginger sauce [22]." They had no gnocchi and tried to push the mashed potatoes. I can make that at home for a dollar. No thanks. So they said they can do risotto. Fine, no biggie. One friend had ordered the salmon because of the couscous. She had been craving couscous all day and was very excited that they had it on the menu. When we finally received our entrees after an hour, She received a plate looking very barren with a piece of salmon the size and shape of a sleeve of laffy taffys and NO COUSCOUS. The chilean sea bass... Read more

Got there at 6:00pm and the place was completely empty all but a few people at the extremely prominent bar that takes up the majority of one sides of the room. The interior was typical Old City; old brick industrial space, and hard to transform with a few token Asian influences. It was bright and pop music playing, and continued to play over top of the three televisions, hunting, sports and the news, and just like any pub in town there was a gentleman loudly discussing the programs with the bartender. I had Miso Soup and Filet Mignon. My wife ordered something they were out of and settled for Strip Steak. I was surprised that with a menu that contained four Entrees, one of them was unavailable. The soup was rather good, large amount, maybe too much, hot, fresh and flavorful. The steaks came out and they were definitely fine dining portions, piece of steak, and ration of bland potatoes, onion rings? I ask for my steak cooked medium it came out medium rare, closer to rare, no steak kni... Read more

Went mid-afternoon for lunch, and needless to say it was all around HORRIBLE! The miso soup we ordered had more greens in it than a salad, the tofu was still frozen and the soup itself was so cold I didn?t even eat it. You would think since we were sitting at the bar with no one else around, the bartender would have noticed that I pushed my soup away and didn?t eat it, NOPE. Then came the sushi, I don?t even know how to explain how retched it was. I truly think it was not sushi grade at all. We ate maybe 3 pieces total of the 5 different types of sushi and rolls we ordered, and again the bartender didn?t even blink when we didn?t eat it. Not to mention we had to ask for napkins, chopsticks, etc.; she was too busy talking to her coworkers instead of waiting on us. We weren?t in the mood to argue, so we just paid and left, but ill never ever go back there again! Please save yourself, don?t eat here!

My wife and I have given this restaurant 3 tries. We always give people the benefit of the doubt...everyone has a bad day or you order something and it isn't quite right. But in 3 attempts at this place we were not only unimpressed, but downright disappointed. One one visit I had a pasta dish with a clam sauce...the sauce was a wine and butter sauce and the "clam" was clearly a canned concoction that was ice cold. The sushi has always been less than stellar...especially compared to other places in the area. The only saving grace for this establishment is the martini list...but with Bleu Martini literally around the corner, its good for a single drink at best. The one star rating is for the ease of finding a table...I imagine because people who live in the area know better.

My boyfriend and I attended this restaurant on a Friday night. We had 8 PM reservations and when we went in there were 4 other people dining. I guess we were sort of past the major dinner rush. The ambiance was nice but a little dark. The waitress was great- very prompt and friendly. I guess that isn't that difficult when we were her only table. Anyway- the food came out quickly and it was pretty fresh tasting. The tempura we got as an appetizer was crispy and hot, not at all seeming like it had been sitting around like other reviewers commented. I got the New York strip steak which was pretty good. I did order it medium and it came more medium well but thats OK You'd be hard pressed to find a restaurant outside of a steak house that doesn't overcook steaks. My boyfriend got the Bul Go Ki and said that he enjoyed it. We used a $25 "gift certificate" from restaurants dot com that we purchased for only $3 or $4 on sale so the meal which typically would have been a little overpriced was v... Read more

the sushi is horribly old. there are r o a c h e s and m i c e on everything. the sushi bar printer broke because it was filled with r o a c h es. the computer guy came to fix it. but when he opened it to find it full of r o a c h e s, he left saying he wouldnt touch it. none of the korean food is authentic or any good. the staff gets no training. behind the bar we were made to fill up our empty bottles of Goose with Bankers club. even if the fish was fresh. the sushi chefs are amateur at best. nobody is ever in the place but you will still get the worst dining experience of your life. with little to no attention. any and all of these reviews on here that praise this restaurant are fake. HORRIBLE! FILTHY!!

Our group of five arrived on time and were seated promptly. That's the last time the "on time" could be applied. It went downhill from there. Out waitress was courteous, but completely inept - from spilling a glass of water to asking "how was the steamed edamame ?" (I mean, how bad could they be?). I ordered a caesar salad with "japanese croutons" which consisted of one triangular crispy thing standing in the middle of the salad. That was the crouton, I guess. Okay, next came the entrees - well, 3 of them, anyway. I guess 3 out of 5 isn't bad. We were then informed that the other two would be out in about 10 more minutes. And I noticed that the tempura that one of our party ordered, had been sitting on the kitchen ledge for at least 10 minutes before anything else came out. I had ordered a pan-seared salmon with sweet peas and red pepper sauce over cous-cous, but that was not what I had in front of me. It looked oddly similar to the chicken teriyaki that someone else in my party had ... Read more

A restaurant can be open or it can be closed. If it's open, the staff should act like it and be properly attentive to paying guests. Seven of us took up a table around 8pm tonight. We placed our food orders around 8:20 and waited. At 8:45 we got soup spoons. At 8:50 we flagged down a waitress to find our waiter and find out where our food was. At 9 I had to go inside, interrupt the hostess on a personal phone call and ask where our starters and soup were. It turns out they were sitting on the counter (for who knows how long). At 9:05, with our soup finally at the table, and after an excuse from the waiter about the sushi chef doing things in the wrong order, we were visited by someone claiming to be the manager. This is the point where you usually expect an apology and some kind of a gesture to make us satisfied again. What we got were accusations that our soup had been brought out at 8:45! He actually argued with me about what time our food was brought out and tried to convince me t... Read more

Well last night was my second time eating at this place. The food was very good, the service was good too, the drinks were a little overpriced, but it was worth it because they were delicious. My girlfriend is a very picky eater, and i was surprised how good our server was prepared to explain the dishes. When we were done all my girlfriend could talk about was how good the steak was, and how sexyy the accent of our server was. (not something i wanted to hear :) ). I definitely will go back again. P.S. GORGEOUS bartenders :).

I love to eat out and try new food, so when i came accros Anjou i was very sceptical about it! A fiew minuts later i was greated by the nicest hostes i have ever meet, she explained the menu, and eventhough i had no idea what some of the words ment the hostes was nice and patient enough to explain what they ment! The tables were a bit to close to eachother, but once our waiter and drinks arrived we had forgotten that there were other people aeound us, Anjou was simply a great place! After diner, i walked to the bar downstairs and watched the Eagles Game on the Big Screan TV that was in the Lounge place, One of the cooles things ever. Over all the food was great, the server was nice, friendly, and the prices were mached with those that u would find in an Dinner, considering that we were eating in Old City, the Prices were GREATE.

Everything about Anjou is nasty, from the service to the food. The sushi had that not-so-fresh fishy taste and the entrees need some work. We ordered an appetizer and it came out at the same time as the meal. The entree needed to be reheated, as it was waiting for someone to bring it over for quite some time. The service was just very off and they couldn't answer simple questions about the menu items (I think our waitress even made up what was in one of the sushi rolls). The drinks were too sweet and all tasted like sour mix. For such a crappy meal, it was way overpriced. I'll be sure to never return...

Lunch at anjou is awesome. They created a fusion cheese steak that is out of this world. Everyone in philly needs to try one. The sushi is always good too, they have tons of different makis. The dinner croud is a good and fun one. I live in the area and dine there often. The weekends are good if you want a fun atmosphere (they have a live DJ). The weeknights are more easy going if you are into a more romantic evening. The menu is extensive so it can suit anyones taste. I eat there once a week at least and seem to always come up with something new to try. I also really enjoy there traditional Korean dishes. I will continue to dine there on a regular basis.

I don't know where this people went to eat, but from my experience, Anjou is one of the best restaurants in Old City. I try to dine there every weekend with my wife and two kids. We have a BLAST every time we go there. The staff at Anjou is friendly and ready to help. The food is marvelous. The Sushi is fresh and very well decorated. My favorite dish from the sushi bar is the "Sushi Deluxe and the Eel and Avocado Maki". Actually it's the only place I been that the eel didn't taste like rubber. And the kitchen has a great variety of food to choose. And its not really expensive. People come on. Old City Restaurants don't have McDonalds prices.

In Short Global fusion restaurants are as commonplace as historic markers in Old City and the French named, Korean-Japanese influenced Anjou fits right in. Also par for the neighborhood is the cocktail-centric setup: The bar spills into the dining area, and the modish downstairs lounge has both sushi bar and DJ booth. Opt for the oceanic miso soup; sake-dressed dumplings stuffed with beef; heart udon noodle soup; and flavorful, chewy strips of grilled beef called kalbi.

The sushi was disgusting. We had to send back two rolls. I only ate a california roll because I was starving. Salad was wilty and brown. Chilean sea bass so/so. The menu seems inticing, but it sounds a lot better than it actually is. There were hardly any other people eating, and one of the diners proceeded to smoke cigarrettes right next to us. Seventy bucks later, we went somewhere else to eat. Manager was rude and unapologetic, said he just wanted us out of there. Definitely, DO NOT EAT IN THIS RESTAURANT!!!

Last night was our very first time at Anjou. We were introduced to the Manager, Charles by our friends Kim & Vern....What a great guy! and what an amazing place! BRAVO!! and as we would say in Canada "TRES BIEN" (Very good, or well done). The ambience/music was amazing, and Charles is just one of the nicest, most professional, and undoubtedly, the coolest of the very cool. The 'Chivas Regale' team rocked too! We had a blast! Thanks for a great time! You should definitely check this place out folks! Thanks Charles & ANJOU! YOU ROCK!! keep Rocking! See you soon! MERCI! JUDY & SCOTT

Ok. My chicken terriaki was hard and tough. Fine. I really don't care. However, the bim bi bop was the worst i ever had. So, two entrees, one appetizers, and 2 drinks for 40 bucks? I believe this place has to be the top 5 worst place to eat in Philly.

I went to Anjou last weekend because it was the only place that had available outdoor seating (probably for a reason). The sushi was overpriced and tasted cheap and old. The waitresses were slow, rude, and talked excessively amongst themselves instead of paying attention to the paying customers. I would never waste my money on such horrible service and food with so many other much better establishments in the area. If you want to actually eat some good sushi that hasn't been sitting around for days, try kisso...

The name sounds apetizing but that's all one can say about the place. The food is OK, but far from great, the service is mediocre and there's not much to say about ambiance. Philadelphia's restaurants used to be much better, what happened?

Our dinner at Anjou turned out to be a huge disappointment. The restaurant is suppossed to be French Asian cuisine, but the menu had basic, boring options. The filet we ordered was small and fatty. It first came out bloody, then after being sent back, it was burnt to a crisp. They just couldn't seem to get it right. The tuna was very dry and came in a tasteless sauce. The dessert that we ordered had definitely been sitting around for a number of days. To top it all off, the service was slow and extremely unfriendly. It seemed like the staff as a whole was having a real bad day. Would I ever go back to Anjou for dinner? Probably not. There are too many other highly recommended restaurants in the area.

I made the mistake of going to Anjou for dinner last week. This place calls itself "fine dining", yet I watched as a group of people were acting completely innapropriately, ruining any chance of a fine dining experience. The food was cold and tasteless and it seemed like service was unusually slow, though the restaurant was pretty much empty! I won't be returning any time soon.

Went to Anjou last night for a late dinner. I thought sushi was fresh, decent size and not over priced. The atmosphere was cool too. I can honestly say I have never listened to hip-hop will eating raw fish before. Check it out you will be glad you did.
