It's supposed to be the birthplace of the chicken wing and I've eaten there once even though I grew up in the area. When I ate there I wasn't impressed and recently a coworker ate there and ended up heaving all night long. If you are in the area try some of the other places that have good wings like La Nova, Duffs, Imperial or Bocce's.

I know this is the original. And my Italian heritage won' t let me say anything negative about the birthplace of the best culinary contribution from upstate NY but... The wings are crisp and excellent but ridiculously small. I actually was able to try Duff's out the same night because they were so small. You have to make the trip to pay homage to the birthplace of wingdom.

My family loves to eat at the Anchor Bar, which consistently provides great service, especially for children. The wings are awesome--I always bring out-of-town friends here and they are always impressed! It's always busy when we eat here, whether for lunch or dinner. I find the servers to be very attentive and the wings (I like my crispy, extra hot), are very good.

First off, as a local resident, If you want chicken wings, go to DUFFS!!! Secondly, they are frauds. They stole the idea from a small African-American restaurant on Jefferson Avenue which received none of the credit or the glory. Last but not least, during a surprise snow storm back on November 20, 2000, this place tossed everybody out so they could close for the night. Businesses all over the city were taking in stranded motorists and pedestrians and putting them up for the night. The Anchor Bar couldn't be bothered!

There's about 16 places with better buffalo wings than this old shrine to fried food. Go to La Nova or Duff's or your corner pizza place and you'll be far happier. Don't waste your time. Location isn't worth the time it takes to get there.

We visited this place, obviously due to the fame behind it, while in town for a Bills game a few years ago. We sat at the bar, had a few beers and some wings. I thought they were great and had no problems with the staff as other have suggested. Maybe we lucked out, who knows. We'll find out though as we are heading there again this football season.

walking into this place may be neat because it IS the birthplace of Buffalo Wings BUT you will be better off turning around and go to ANY of the HUNDREDS of other restaurants in Buffalo that serve wings. Walking in at dinner time will be crowed as expected ( I'm suspecting mostly tourists), but that doesn't justify the long waits and the rude wait staff. I have been there numerous time only because any friends that come in to town want to see the historic place. Every time I have been there I was waited on by someone who seems to feel that they have the right to be inattentive and rude because the are an anchor bar waitress and they are special because of this. When you order wings, expect to wait about 45 minutes to an hour for them to arrive (as you sit there thirsty because of the previously mentioned staff). Close to the end of our dinner a small band got up on stage and started playing which was ok, UNTIL i received the bill and there was an extra charge because we were there wh... Read more

This is a nice place to visit every few years with good atmosphere and decent food in the down town area. It's full of tourists almost all the time and there is a reason for that - the locals all go to Duffs because that is where the best wings are at. The wings were nothing special at the Anchor Bar and the pizza was lousy, but maybe the cook was having a bad day the 3 times I've visited there over the past few years???? I keep going back because all the tourist's books I read and some people I know swear by their wings, and I keep giving them a chance hoping to see what all the fuss is about. But there is absolutely NO question in my mind. Average food with a better dining area than Duffs, but I go for my monthly fix to Duffs with no regrets.

We came up to Buffalo, for the National Buffalo Festival; we had heard great things about the Anchor Bar, so we thought we would check it out for ourselves. The place was overrated with average wings. It may be the "original" Buffalo wing place, but we have had much better. The bartenders were slow and a guy that we walked in with waited 45 minutes for 2 pound! Buffalo has a lot of bars that have wings; don't waste your time here!

This place is awesome. You can enjoy a meal with the family or watch the ball game at the bar. The Anchor bar is a true landmark that you must experience if in Buffalo or just passing through.

Everytime I go to Niagara Falls, I always go to two places: Anchor Bar and LaNova. Anchor Bar has the best wings. LaNova has the best pizza and a close second in their wings. Anchor Bar is the original place for buffalo wings and I wouldn't have it any other way. These are THE best!

The Scene No trip to Buffalo is complete without visiting the birthplace of the city's signature food. The hospitable staff cruises through the informal setting, where photos of famous customers, articles and awards cover the walls. Need another excuse to come? Customers are treated to some of the city's best jazz on the weekends. The Food The city is known for its hot wings and this place is why. Buffalo wings are prepared perfectly--deep-fried until golden, tossed with the infamous sauce and smothered in blue cheese with a side of celery. Spice levels range from mild to the aptly named "suicidal" wings. If you're not in the mood for wings, there are plenty of Italian specialties like veal cacciatore and eggplant Parmesan. Homemade pastas, salads and sandwiches extend the options.

I remember when the Anchor Bar first started serving chicken wings. They were free and placed on the bar so customers could snack and buy more beer at the bar. When chicken wings really took off, the Anchor Bar was the "Mecca" for chicken wings in the entire North American continent. Unfortunately, over the years as chicken wings became more commercial and mainstream in all restaurants, the Anchor Bar has slipped. There are at least three places in WNY that have better "wings" by far. Everyone from out of town wants to stop at the Anchor Bar for chicken wings but the local population goes elsewhere. The Anchor Bar put Buffalo, NY on the map as the Chicken Wing capital of the world but sadly, the competition has caught up!

Good place hang out with friends. The wings are good. Nice that they haven't lost there touch to make good wings. I have had better but these still pretty good. People say LaNova has the best wings, people must like wings with no sauce or taste. They cost a little more, but they are well worth it. Thank you Anchor Bar for not forgetting how to make BUFFALO WINGS!!!!

While it was the birthplace of Buffalo wings, there are many places that have a far superior product. Think the Bar Bill in East Aurora or La Nova, not to mention the hundreds of corner pizza joints that far outclass the Anchor Bar.

I come down from Canada ever year for a Bills game and never make the trip without stopping in at the Anchor Bar. I am a huge "wing nut" and have tried them all over and none can compare...I even order thier sauce on-line so I can have a taste of the Anchor Bar all year long. Good work guys.....
