Sat Jan 19 2008I never really liked AmSouth...thought they were good at confusion! But now that Regions has bought them I keep hearing about how inpersonal they have become.

Thu Apr 20 2006Their fees and how they come by them are nuts. I do not understand why they will immediately clear any withdrawals but will hold any deposits that aren't automatic. All banking customers should be outraged. The sad thing is that I am unsure things are really different at any other bank.

Sat Mar 04 2006I run a small business and had my "free banking" account for 1 year. At the toll of midnight at the end of my year (which is now the silent equivilent of an electronic lawyer/robber sneaking into my bank account) I was transformed into a business powerhouse with a min balance of $10,000.00. I "was lucky though" the fee for being below that was only $10 per month (taken out at thier discretion. Then we recieved $216 of overdraft fees because they "thought it would be to our benefit to run through the most expensive check...we figure it must have been a mortgage or a vehicle payment and we were just looking out for your best interest" says assistant branch manager at a branch on the west coast of Florida close to recent hurricane damage. We heard that same line about shifting our funds (not knowing who they were to, just based on how that may overdraw our account) from every branch manager that had shown up for work that Friday. In the last year I still after numerous occasions have not... Read more

Sat Dec 10 2005I've had my account with amsouth for over 9 years, I opened my account with First American and was very pleased with the service I received. After the merger I have been deluged with difficulties cause by amsouth. When transferring my original account into their system they marked my old account as a charge off, placed it on my credit report, and also reported me to checkservices. Of course once I saw this on my credit report I immediately called their customer service and was told I had to go to my home brach. My home branch is 300 miles away. I was also told I could easily move my account once I go to my current home branch and ask them to do it. Needless to say I was not pleased with this but I took a 3day weekend and took care of it. At least that is what I was told. This was in January of 2000 that this was "taken care of." I recently went to another bank to open an account. But, low and behold I was told that I was not able to because I was still showing a charge off on checkser... Read more

Mon Oct 17 2005Our complaint is the same as many others. Their policy of holding your deposits(even those made directly from other amsouth accounts, which they say are immediate) and allowing debits to go through no problem. My husband tried to make a transfer online...it once again failed to go through. Their online banking is worthless if you have to go in to the bank to make sure it goes through and the overdraft fees are a crime...in my husband's business account, we had suffered some overdrafts while they were holding checks, they made sure they charged us their fees before they cleared the checks, yes, that's right, racking up another overdraft fee and on went that process for several transactions. By the way, neither of our accounts was ever really negative, just unavailable! They were no help at the bank when i went in, i know personally they could care less, but we have huge medical bills from my daughter's illness...you would think they would have a collective heart...i asked if we cou... Mon Oct 03 2005I've been with them for 6 years and the only problem is their fees are a little bit high. But I'm willing to pay that because when I had a BIG problem with the bookkeeper, they supported me, didn't let any checks bounce, and generally served as a "partner" all businessmen like to have.

Wed Feb 23 2005AmSouth puts a one day hold on all non-Amsouth checks that you depsoit into your account. It dosen't matter how long you have had the account nor how much $$ is in your account. If there is a policy, such as the previous one, that you are unaware of and this policy causes you to have an NSF charge, too bad. I am told that AmSouth's fees are non refundable!

Wed Feb 16 2005Amsouth is undeniably the worst financial institution I have ever used. Their policies are ridiculous, the tellers are rude and they are totally unwilling to work with the very customers that have made them their money. Do NOT even ponder banking with AmSouth. In the end, you WILL regret this decision.

Thu Aug 19 2004Recently opened an AmSouth account at a nearby branch. All went well, until... we ran into their unusual banking policy. My wife went grocery shopping and she wasn't sure if there was enough money for getting cash back, but she rationalized that if there wasn't enough money the debit request would have been declined (like our Bank of America account does). Transaction went through like butter. When she got home she gave me the reciept to enter into Quicken, that's when I realized she would overdraw the account by $8.23 when the transaction cleared. The next morning I deposited $200 only to find out that I had already incurred $60 in fees. My account balance was positive and the previous night's grocery transaction had not yet been processed by the bank. The bank's explanation was that my available balance (which includes pending transactions) was negative. I asked to see in the AmSouth Customer Agreement where they could charge OD fees on the a negative available balance rather t... Read more

Sun Aug 31 2003These people that call themselves bankers are the lowest wheeler dealers of them all! They give you some good options, then they take them away. I am a senior citizen and I can't afford the "deals" that these shysters are dangling on the end of a string that is jerked back...again and again.

Fri Feb 07 2003They've been great for us so far. We have met with a guy there several times and he's been very responsive. He has helped reconfigure our accounts to save us fees, set up our online banking, and even waived transfer fees for one month when we went over our account limit. No complaints.

Tue Jul 16 2002First of all I was suppose to be getting free checking while I was a student. Somewhere a long the way they started charging me for this and I don't know how long it was before i realized because they were charging me for the checkcard. When I did discover it they only reimbursed me for the previous two months. I know they have records that go way back before that. They also almost lost some of my money once by not comepletely looking in the envelope. If someone deposits $500 on the slip and you only pull out 200 from the envelope don't you think you will search the envelope to make sure that there wasn't another check in there? Good thing I noticed this early and they "found" the check STILL in the envelope days later. That whole scenario sounded fishy to me. I just have not been happy with them. I went to them because I was not happy will my last bank and their fees. Now I am looking for a good online bank. I heard of one that might be good.
