Delta successfully rescued an individual in Panama in 89 and they have had numerous successful actions in the last 3 years in Iraq and Afgahistan. Units such as Delta rarely make the news unless something goes wrong. Guy100 had part of the facts straight, but missed a few also. The oil truck was not there to refuel the helicopters. The C130s had fuel blivets in their cargo holds for that purpose. The fuel truck just happend to wander down the road to their staging/refueling area. Secondly, it wasn't Delta, but rather a Ranger unit assigned to provide security that fired a LAW rocket at the truck. Once the helos arrived and the condition of them was discovered, Colonel Beckwith aborted the mission. Regardless, the helos had to be refueled. Beckwith had told General Vaught that the mission could not go forward with fewer than 6 helicopters. One helo did crash into a C130. The Delta soldiers did not jump on the helos and run away, they loaded up on the 130s, including the helo pilots. A... Read more

All soldiers in special forces no matter which special forces evidently some brilliant physical stamina - they are no exception. The are like the SAS but are more specialised. The problem is that they are more specialised than the SAS but still no better than them at what the yare specialised in and obviously no where near as versatile. P.S an interesting little fact - after an attempt by some delta soldiers at SAS selection, over half failed.

Spblues04 is clueless. Delta Force are opergrown boy scouts. The SAS developed, and is still ahead of the game on hostage rescue and CQB!! Look at the SAS and the Iranian embassy siege in 1980. Delta's failures are too many to list. Have they ever done anything sucessfully? The SAS and SBS are way more fitter than any US soldiers and are the fittest and best trained of any unit in the world.

Delta Force, the unofficial title of America's Combat Applications Group, boasts the best training complex in the world. Although loosely based on Britian's SAS, Delta is a far more specalized unit. It's primary purpose is Counter-Terror and hostage rescue. They're the best in the world at Close-Quarters Combat, and their physical and phsycological traing is unmatched. The one thing the SAS have over them is versatility.

Americans are known for trying to take someone else's great idea turn it into what they want and claim it better. This is the case for the SFOD-D. These men are very well known for their short history. That isn't really a positive aspect when your in this line of work. Not only is this force romantisized by the American public, they are known to be a hit and run force. These men are also not the most elite in the world. In a politically driven country the selection phase of this force (ref. the hard copy of The Delta Force written by a founding member of B sqadron.) is sub standard. You can drive your men to the breaking point like the rest of the world, but the Americans have yet to realize that a soldier reaching the breaking point is knowing the limitations and than improving. These men can not keep up to the JTF2 or the British Secret Air Service. (3RCR)

Special forces operational detachment delta(delta force). is the newest of the united states special forces units. It was raised shortly before the iranian rescue disaster of the late i970s. A Special forces colonel who did a two year exchange with the UKs 22nd Special Air Service Regiment, eventually pursuaded the pentagon to raise the unit. In keeping with SAS traditions and structure. 16 to a troop. All reverting to the rank of trooper on entry though most are already corporals or sergeants. The US Special forces usually graduate as sergeants when.qualified. A trooper in the SAS is paid as a corporal,a lance corporal as a sergeant, a corporal as a staff sergeant,a sergeant as a warrant officer class 2,a staff sergeant as a warrant officer class 1, a warrant officer class 2 as a captain, a warrant officer class 1 as a major. That happens no where else in the UK armed forces. They recieve pay at the higher pay band and also recieve specoial forces pay of between 3000 and 8000 accordin... Read more

Apparently the best at close quarter fighting. They are good at the hit and run operation but the SAS can stay in the field for months and do intelligence gathering as well. If you can only do one thing you are not that 'special'

Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (SFOD-D) is hands down the best force in the world. No longer are they exclusively a Counterterrorist unit, but have expanded their operations to assasination, recon, security, and espionage/counter-espionage. Delta is broken down into three main units: the Bowstring force is always prepaired to leave for a mission in a matter of hours; the assesment/training unit is tasked with scouting other units for potential operators. They not only look in the Army, but all branches of the military, including the National Guard and Reserve; The third force is on standby. Ths unit responds to any special needs such as bodyguarding, assasination, security, cross training with foreign units, and offering their expertise in any situation. The best of the best.
