This was bred from the Tennessee walking horse and the Welsh pony. It was developed for gaited compitition and has three gaits: the merry walk, pleasure walk and canter. They are 14 hands high and large for a pony. Below are some beautiful ones: http://cowboyfrank.net/fortvalley/breeds/Graphics/A mericanWalkingPony.jpg http://www.canaryzoo.com/Pony%20Species%202/america n%20shetland%20pony.jpg http://www.gopetsamerica.com/horse/breeds/walking-pony.jpg
