Fri Jul 24 2009Ah, I hated flying Alitalia! It was such a horrible experience. The flight out of NYC stood on the runway for four hours, which made me miss my connecting flight in Rome. When I got there, they didn't want to tell me anything and if I hadn't bugged them constantly about what I was supposed to do, I would have missed the other flight they put me on, four hours later. When we asked if we could make a phone call to our families, they refused saying it was not their responsibility! The hostesses were EXTREMELY rude. They appeared annoyed when I asked them for anything and ignored passengers a lot of the time and instead sat chatting with each other. Seven other passengers on the same flight as me were on the connecting flight to Egypt that Alitalia arranged for us. All seven of them had their luggage "lost", including myself. I got the luggage three days later, and found on the tag it had been sent to France. All in all, horrible experience.

Mon Oct 22 2007The worst possible! They wasted time questioning my mother about why she needed a wheelchair and by the time they got it together, her plane had already gone. She is 75 years old and just had surgery on her foot. The next day she got on a flight. She got from Rome to Milan and the airline went on strike leaving her stuck in Milan. My sister also flew this year and after missing her flight by no fault of her own, was forced to buy full price, one-way tickets back to the U.S. for her and my niece - $2000. Alitalia lost all of the luggage that my mom, sister and niece brought with. My sister's was missing for 2 weeks. All of them came back broken with items missing. We are Italian and very proud of our heritage but will never fly Alitalia again. I suggest you think twice if you're planning it yourself.

Thu Jul 19 2007Just came back from Croatia and Italy. Never should have booked in Alitalia. Rude attendants. Once around the cabin with drinks, that's it for a 8 hour flight. Next time I'll pay more so as not to fly Alitalia.

Mon Feb 26 2007I had the misfortune of flying Alitalia from Miami Milan Tel Aviv Rome Milan Miami. Wow what a crummy airline, they had small seating for a 10 hour flight, poor food quality, rude and nasty flight attendants. They NEVER came around to offer drinks or snacks. They wanted $4000 for a business class upgrade even thought the cabins were empty. I will never fly this airline again and would gladly pay more to be on another carrier.

Tue Oct 17 2006Cancelled our nonstop flight without ever informing us--we found out accidently just a few days before departure. No apology. Airline has abysmal service and the food is the worst I have ever had on a plane. Economy seating is impossible for anyone taller than a midget.

Mon Jun 13 2005I'm in international marketing and I fly over 100,000 miles a year. Not a bunch, but enough to have something to compare them to when I say they have the worst customer service of any airline I've ever flown. Consistently. Many colleagues who travel much more than I have the same opinion.

Wed Mar 31 2004Alitalia is a disgrace to Italy and the Italians. I have flown it only a couple of times, many years ago, and never will again if I can help it. On one of the flights the attendants were the rudest I have ever experienced; I had a knock-down, drag-out verbal altercation with one of the stewards, in Italian. I couldn't believe that he mouthed off as much as he did to a passenger. It was a really unpleasant flight, and I would never, ever recommend Alitalia to anyone, unless I wanted to get even with them for something or other. Anyone who has read any of my comments concerning anything to do with Italy knows what a bias I have for anything Italian, so trust me, if I tell you that Alitalia stinks, much as it pains me to say it, it really does.

Wed Jun 07 2000Alitalia, which I recently had the misfortune of flying on, has got to be one of the worst airlines of all time.
