Avoided in high school. Devasted upon learning linear equations are the "easy" part of solving for "x," in college. Can't remember a damned concept from algebra class, not even linears. Oddly certain I use algebra daily. Consider suspect anyone proclaiming, "Why algebra? I'll never use this bullshit in life!" Yes, you will.

I always tried to stay away from this stuff. One of my ex-wives taught algebra to displaced persons after the Vietnam War. The poor bastards got so confused that they went home.

It's way too hard at times, and you get punished by getting put in Algebra 1 for having an 88 average in it the year before!!!

Its not that hard, even though a certain number of folks on here probably think Al Gebra is the guy who runs the discount Persian Rug store in town.

I LOVE ALGEBRA, MRS. REAGAN :-), she swore I'd say that by the end of the 3 years she taught me the varying levels of Algebra, I didn't say it, but that's probably cause I'm stubborn(I still didn't like it) NO WORKEE, NO GRADEE :-)

I managed to flunk two years of first year algebra.Never had any difficulty figuring out the answer to an equation, but I did it with lots of arithmetic and never could figure out how the shortcut worked, so I got zeros on my exams even though I had all the correct answers.

i was never a math guy, but algebra was the last math i remember taking that I really had a firm grasp on.  Calc, Trig, Statistics... all down hill after algebra.

I basically love math, but I never have fully understood algebra. I don't mind saying that I was no ace in this subject. I did manage a B-minus when I took algebra in high school, so I did okay. However, I didn't do well enough in it to have a career which uses algebra. Maybe it's useful to some people, but as for me, it does me no good. Perhaps if I study it again, I might understand it better, and therefore have a greater appreciation for it. Right now, I'll stick to the basic math I use in bookkeeping.

I hated Algebra, math is my worst subject. The teachers I had were not that good at teaching the subject either which didn't help matters any.

It was far too easy...or boring, depending on how I chose to look at it. I almost failed this course my 9th grade year because I didn't like doing the work (it was all review). I passed with a C- and moved on to harder classes that actually challenged me. My senior year, when I had gotten through all of my requirements they gave me the chance to re-take it in hopes of raising my overall gpa. It was obviously still a review and still boring as ever, but I settled down and completed it with an A+.

I was good at Arithmetics but as the calculation branch of Maths developed into Algebra  it became a brainracker. As long as I could feel some connection of the algebraic nuisances to the problems of life I was willing to make efforts. When the "higher mathematics" were introduced I decided to work no more than was necessary to pass the exam without glory. I never regretted this.

Absolutely essential. Every high school student should be required to take math classes through at least Algebra II. There are just way to many adults out there who have absolutely no math skills, and the weak requirements of the educational system are to blame.

Again, we use the same thinking processes in problem solving every day. I always liked math because there was no subjectivity in grading.

It can be boring at first but once you get into some of the more advanced aspects it can be rather interesting and you get a chance to apply things you learned earlier. Even if it is not useful for your plans, it tests your logic skills.

Didn't like it when I was a kid, but a quantitative background is important. You really don't use algebra that much, but the concepts learned in the maths are important for other processes. Bottom line is that its important for people to be able to measure, count and weigh. Math helps cut through this.

I cannot begin to describe my burning hatred of Algebra and all other mathematics. It's boring, it's repetitive, and there's a 99.5% chance that you will never, ever put anything you learn in this class to use. Ever.

I actually liked Algebra. It was one of my better subjects in school and despite how the equations look, once you get to learn the fundamental rules, your all set! Plus, you get pretty proud of yourself when you've solved a problem that looks so complicated.

how many things can Y equal?!? I would need a bottle of pure caffeine just to stay awake in that class. That reminds me, I have to do some algebra homework right now. Can't wait for geometry. I heard that if you hate algebra than you'll love geometry, so I hoping for the best.

Most miserable class I had in school. hated it and had a lot of math anxiety. Our son is going through a similar year with it now. I know He will be glad when it is over. I am sure there are those out there who love math. regular math was fine but Algebra I felt stupid.
