Oh if only I could give zero stars. This airline has the worst customer service on the planet. They make Comcast look like white-glove service. Avoid having to do ANYthing concerning bags if you go through BWI. My friend and I complained about the poor customer service we had and as retaliation they gave us a mysterious "oversize" bag charge...the same bag I've used when flying on them three times before...INCLUDING MY F-ing originating flight to BWI just the prior day. If you are into paying charges for no reason and supporting a company that abuses women, fly AirTran! P.S. If you see Bruce at the BWI counter(can i mention specific names here?), and your female, stay away.

My limited experience with this airline has been very positive. No frills? Well, I guess. But, with the direction the entire industry seems to be headed when it comes to customer service at least they can’t be accused of promising what they can’t or won’t deliver. Overall, it was a decent flight, on time and with fares that make it actually possible to go biz class (with a handy refundable option) – all without having to empty your savings account, take out a loan or offer your first born.

Not even worth the one star. Same problem that many have had on this site...they changed flight time and then wanted us to pay for a flight change and increased fare. Rude customer service. Refused to pass me along to a supervisor. "Jennifer" refused to provide her last name and claimed she was a supervisor. Finally gave up a supervisor full name and passed me to his voicemail. Never heard from the "supervisor". The four of us will never fly Air Tran again.

I booked on 6/16 a flight from San Diego,CA to White Plains, NY and I received an email as a confirmation. Yesterday July 3rd I received the same email but instead of the original schedule October 1st it changed to October 2nd. I call the customer service and they tell me sorry it s a Schedule change we can change it the way we want anytime :) There is not flight anymore on october 1st. I tell the agent they can not do that this way, everything was booked (hotels, meetings...) and that If they give a schedule they can not just change it. Seems as a passenger I have no right anyway. So I canceled the flight for october 2nd that is useless for me and booked from another Company... As they are not even capable to keep a schedule month in advance I will not fly with them anymore even if I have to drive more to book from another airport! They are really bad and do not care about theire passengers.

First bad experience was leaving our timeshare in the Bahamas a few years ago and we were told at the airport they gave our seats away because we were late. We were there almost an hour ahead of the departure. In the Bahamas... this is plenty of time. They got us FLorida and dumped us!! Had to pay a motel from our pocket andmiss a days work. We gave them a another try here in 2007. 6 weeks before our vacation, we get a call they have discontinued service to the Bahamas!! Angry to say the least, I chose a refund. I was then told it would take 7-10 business days for the refund to hit our checking account! I snapped back, "You sucked it out of my account in 4 minutes but it is going to take 10 days to put it back?" I was pretty much that is the way it is! I told them I needed the money to book my new flight but was told that was the best they could do! In closing, unless I get absolutely free tickets and have no other choice... I WILL NEVER AGAIN USE THIS AIRLINE!!! I will also make it a ... Read more

The worst customer service anywhere. If you have a problem they will not help and lie. Fly at your own risk and avoid if at all possible. The people are rude and insulting.

A long-time Airtran patron, I've only had one negative experience, and even that wasn't too bad.  On a recent trip from Boston to Baltimore, I was told my flight had been oversold and I would have to wait a couple hours for the next flight.  In response, I merely asked what my pre-purchased ticket did, if it didn't reserve me a seat.  Within minutes, I had a seat.  For a discount airline, Airtran's customer service is friendly and very responsive.

As an Atlanta-based consultant, I flew enough to qualify, over the years, for gold/silver status on Delta, United, and American. I also achieved preferred status on AirTran. Overall, I believe Airtran (in addition to having great rates) provided the best customer service - although service quality does seem to have declined recently. In particular, when unforseen circumstances arose, AirTran was consistenly far, far more flexible and helpful than the legacy carriers (often waiving fees, etc.). Many of the people I've met who have complaints about AirTran are individuals who travel very infrequently and don't realize that flight problems and customer service issues occur to a remarkably high degree with all airlines. AirTran is better than most.

If you have to call them you will be on hold forever (40 minutes was my experience both times). They have the most restrictive policies on changing your tickets. They are cheap, but look elsewhere and you can find similar deals.

I was selected for secondary screening 15 times in a row with Air Tran. After about 6 times I questioned it and was told that my name is randomly selected each time I fly. I asked if I came up on the list once was I likely to come up again, to which it was reiterated that each flight randomly selects passengers so, no. Having some basic understanding of statistical probability, I told the agent that that was not true. Over the next few flights I posed the same question with the same results. By the way, the fifteenth time was my last trip on Air Tran. Wish my employers contract with them would have expired sooner!

I've traveled with AirTran 3 times in the past year and have had wonderful experiences each time. Great prices, great service, nice staff, nice planes, on shedule everytime, etc, etc, etc...best airline around!

Like someone else said, the only positive feature of this airline is the ticket prices. The planes never leave on time. I have used their airline 8 times and only once did the plane take off as scheduled. That's terrible service. I will continue to use it though because I believe in paying as little as possible even if I have to be uncomfortable for a while (waiting and waiting sitting in the darn airport).

All flights with AirTran that I've taken were delayed and missed a connecting flight. It may be cheap, but when you want to get home fast, expect MAJOR delays and no reimbursement for the trouble.

We got stuck inside our plane for 5 hours on the tarmack at Laguardia.. People started getting angry, and the flight crew was just nasty. They finally let us off the plane, just to sit in the airport for 12 hours.. with no one knowing ANYTHING! We got to Atlanta¨which wasn´t our final destination at 2 A.M. they did get us a hotel room... which we got to use for all of 2 hours.. anyhow, it was bad, I´d never fly with them again, but I did get two free roundtrip tickets out of the ordeal.

So im supposed to fly with AIRTRAN at 6 in the morning. I wake up at 3 to catch my flight, and they dont even have pilots ready for my flight. Pilots show up at 7 30 and we leave almost 2 hours late. So my connecting flight(YOU SEE THEY DONT HAVE DIRECT FLIGHTS UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO ATLANTA) leave early, and I miss it. So i have to spend 6 extra hours in the airport while my sister is stuck an hour from her home waiting for me to show up at the airport. To top it off, I had to wait for my baggage once i got there.

All I can really say about Airtran as a positive was that it certainly was cheap but that's about it.

Air Tran has some great discount programs for college students.
