This food is actually pretty good. For the price you really can not go wrong.

We feed our dog the grain-free figlicious venison and steakhouse beef. My dog LOVES it! He licks up every last crumb. We also rotate this weekly with Honest Kitchen Embark (turkey). I really wish addiction would make a grain free salmon or other fish based food because I still buy cans of fish to add to Honest Kitchen Preference (meat free) to get a wide variety of proteins on the menu for our dog's rotation. Dehydrated raw travels well too, it packed up easy on our cross country road trip to Florida this summer. Wish I could give it 10 stars :)

About a week ago I started using the Addiction Raw Dehydrated Perfect Summer Brushtail for my dog that has extreme allergies and sensitivities. First thing I noticed, while preparing it with warm water, is that my dog started to cry for it before the bowl touched his food holder. Now he is not a picky eater and will eat anything put in front of him, but I've never heard him so excited for a meal. It does smell VERY good and you can see many pieces of meat in it. Also, a plus is that it is grain free and has healthy ingredients. It's very hard to find a food he can tolerate and thanks to the reviews of Winki's Mom, I have tried this, Ziwi Peak, and Great Life Kibble and all have been fantastic foods for him. The Great Life Buffalo Kibble is the least expensive of the three, and is a great kibble as far as kibble goes. The Ziwi Peak is very expensive, but it has the best limited ingredients for a dog with allergies and it looks like little pieces of jerky...very palatable. The Addic... Read more

Addiction grain free venison and salmon bleu - for one allergy prone dog (heavy allergy) and one normal dog. I buy 4 lb packets and rotate. I store the opened bags in fridge. Great food ingredients. No grain is the best advantage. Both dogs are doing GREAT on this food - coats, general health, energy, mood everything wonderful!!! 10 Stars! The issue - I have to drive more than 10 miles to get this food which *may* be on the shelf. I have to pre-order in a store to collect it. So am ordering from www.addictionfoods.com..The cost of shipping plus the food is expensive but it is hard to get a good dog food with best ingredients. The shipment is QUICK and wonderful packaging! I had asked a lot of questions before i started my dogs on this food. I got a little delayed but appropriate answers. Yes i will buy this food again and again unless there is some change in ingredients which are not tolerated by my dogs.

My dog loves Addiction's Unagi Eel and Seaweed entree (canned). It gives her a seafood product, good for the omegas, and red meat from venison which is also an ingredient. The other products are also excellent. She also loves the dehydrated raw Fig'licious. It's a great food for every day and especially good if you travel or camp. The food is antibiotic and hormone free. I am also a big fan of grain free food. I hear they are coming out with a simarly good chicken food, which would be good to serve in a rotational diet which all dogs should be on, unless they have allergies to some animal sources. I do believe feeding a dog excellent food will help them live longer as good food helps support a healthy immune system.

I hear many negative things said about this food because they have a vegetarian formula. I am a raw advocate and believe dogs and cats are carnivores and should eat meat. That being said, I personally know a dog that is allergic to just about EVERY meat protein the owner has tried.Chicken, turkey, duck, beef, venison, bison, pork, quail, fish, rabbit... you name it. The dogs owner has gone through heck trying to find ANYTHING he could eat, including expensive prescription diets which IMO aren't fit for any animal to eat. This dog cannot handle meat protein, period, in any form raw or cooked. We tried EVERYTHING. Addiction foods are made primarily for pets with allergies, and therefore the vegetarian formula is not an indicator that the company is low quality. While vegitarian formulas are not optimal, they are a necessary evil that should only be used when every other option has been exhausted.

This is one of 3 dog foods that I am reviewing (Ziwipeak & Great Life kibble are the other 2). First alittle about Mr. Winki (aka the "The One-Eyed Wonder Dog" - he was born w/ only one eye!): Chihuahua/Toy Poodle mix; adopted from a rescue group 3 months ago; approx. 1.5 yrs old; 7.5 lbs; very finicky eater; good health although he does tend to 'itch' every now & then, but not to the point where I will put him on meds-could be seasonal; fur was on the dry side when I adopted him, according to the vet; oh, and of course, MY BEST FRIEND! Addiction is a raw, dehydrated food that you have to "rehydrate" w/ water before serving. It's very easy to do & takes no time to rehydrate. Company claims to 'air-dry' the raw food vs. freeze-drying, similar to Ziwipeak, which reportly preserves even more nutrients & enzymes in the raw food than the latter process. Since this company is New Zealand-based and so is Ziwipeak (the other brand Winki likes so much), I thought I'd give it a shot. I wanted so... Read more

The first ingredient is a named meat product, in meal form. This is the sole meat product in the food. The primary grains in the food are oats and rice, both of which are good quality. Peas are the final major ingredient in the food ahead of fat content.

My dog vomitted after eating Addiction and she's lethargic and had lose stools. I would not recommend this product to any petlovers.

Expensive, but my dog LOVES it! She has a sensitive stomach and she was a finicky eater but she is doing great on Addiction. Of course, since it is so pricey and she is not a tiny dog I have made it just her dinner food.

I attended a nutritional seminar given by a vet in Seattle and picked up loads of useful information. While using meat versus meal might result in more water, this only applies to products that use vegetable-based protein sources as the next major ingredient on their list. Looking at Addiction's ingredient list, their main ingredient is kangaroo meat, followed by rice and sorghum which contain virtually no protein. Addiction would thus have to use a very significant amount of kangaroo meat in order to meet the protein requirements set by AAFCO. As for Addiction's Zen, ideally of course, all dogs should be eating meat and not vegetables. But in the case of a dog who's allergic to meat, what other alternatives would one have? For example, many babies who can't drink cow's milk are given soy milk as an alternative. Similarly, a vegetarian diet is a balanced option for many dogs allergic to meat.

Finally--found something my finicky dog likes. She LOVES this food. Less gassy and her stools are improved. I tried Innova, Innova EVO,Natural Variety, Wellness, Canidae and Verus. This is the brand she gets excited for and I don't have to coax her to eat.

Great of allergic dogs....I know several people who have struggled with allergic dogs and this formula works very well for them. New to the US so not widely available but again, a very good formula for allergic dogs.

Their Zen formula HAS NO MEAT!, come on....... any company that can sell a food for dogs without meat protein should not be in business.Their meat based food consists of kangaroo, in meat based form, not meal, therefore 80% is water.Meaning that the Kangaroo protein would be further down the ingredient list making Sorghum the main ingredient.Sorghum is a low quality grain and not good for dogs.Only available in a few states, and only available in 3# and 15# bags.
