Adam Jones (guitar for Tool)

i think tool would really appreciate what you wrote apebrains. i most certainly did. from a dedicated musician's point of view, who has listened to tool and felt some sense of spiritual communion from their insane harmony, that to me is a true understanding of tool's intentions and simply how they convey music as a form of art, self-expression, and enjoy doing so. nail on the head man. fuckin' amazing.

Well...... I gotta say, it never ceases to amaze me that people like these exist. Jesus. I often wonder if it's simply a matter of playing a character, just an attempt at being ostentatious, or if they really are that friggin odd. ANYWAY, Adam Jones. Cool guy. I'd hang out with him. But that notwithstanding, we are here, I presume, to evaluate his technical skill and proficiency as a guitarist. This means that he as a man, in addition to his work in all of the other forums he has found himself (film, creating the videos for Tool, art, etc.) are not herein to be measured. By that precept, I'll proceed. I find myself somewhere between the bars in this instance. We have one fellow who has evaluated Adam as an elementary guitarist at best, posessing little technical prowess, and lacking in any real progression over time. Adam Jones is a mediocre guitarist. His technical scope finds an abrupt halt at hammer-on triplets, which often hide behind a quilt of delay and distortion. He is a drop-D, flat finger guitarist. That said, it works for the band, and I do like Tool. I am in no way insulting Mr. Jones. He seems to have a very deep and spiritual awareness, and is clearly intelligent. That is all cool with me. Though, with age I have become tired of the limitations of a band who label themselves "progressive" but haven't seemed to progress much with each consecutive album. The albums are always solid, and a great listen, but they have begun to feel a bit "samey" to me. And musically, they don't really push the envelope like other "progressive" outfits. Well, it's kinda tough to follow the first review, but here goes... So far, Tool is the best band. Adam Jones is the guitarist for Tool. That said, Adam Jones is the best guitarist. It could be that by himself he sucks at guitar, but right now all we have to go by is that he is the guitarist for the best band. Interbeing, I hope you're not a desperate, junked-up Tool fan, imagining that you and Tool are connected by ethereal bonds of truth and light that can only be fully realized if they give you their e-mail address. Their music can have that effect, I know, but you have to be strong. Remember, Tool are huge, hot-headed, cocky rock stars who only want your money.
