Although they sometimes take on marginal cases, I believe having them around as a watchdog is, on balance, beneficial.

anyone else think we should use the Rico Act to bust up the Islamic Terrorist Sympathizing Communists known as the ACLU cause other than helping Terorists and people who harm children, the ACLU does nothing but attack Christians most of the time.

There is such a thing as standing on principle. There is also another thing such as infringing on the rights of others in favor of giving comfort to a single individual. Such is the case of Michael Newdow who wanted to remove ...under God... from the Pledge of Allegiance and the ACLU's embrace of his case (all because this idiot is offended by the religious content of the Pledge) for it. If this does not prove the non-credibility of this organization, nothing will.

Bottom feeders who sit and wait for the scum to fall. They seem to serve a purpose and maybe they do to some small extent. But generally speaking they're just full of sh*t. Still, if we ban their right to speak (or anyone else's), we're not really seeing the big picture.

A very liberal organization that is supposed to protect civil rights! Where is the ACLU when my Christian rights are being taken away???I have no respect for any organization that fights for child molestor's rights and fight for the right to burn our flag!

Chauncey, they are the linchpin for the destruction of our democracy. Which would suit them just fine.

I agree with those who say that banning the ACLU would be reminiscent of the way totalitarian regimes stifle dissent. However, I really think that an objective look at the type of cases the ACLU takes on would leave a reasonable man (to use a legal term) too the conclusion that it has a pretty left-wing, liberal agenda, despite the few cases (like Rush Limbaugh's) it takes to show that it is fair. The acronym ACLU should stand for Almost Completely Liberal Union rather than American Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU's defense of NAMBLA's right to free speech is really over the top. Ban the Boy Scouts in San Francisco, likewise. The latest business about removing the cross from the seal of Los Angeles County because it might make someone feel unwelcome or uncomfortable, or whatever they are basing it on, is such a farce it would be funny if it were not so serious. I really think that at times the ACLU lawyers take cases just to show how smartass they can be and what they can get awa... Read more

The ACLU protects constitutional rights that would have left the authors of the Constitution scratching their collective heads. Is the off-spring of liberal judicial activism.

Do we really want to ban an organization that does a decent job of promoting free speech on all sides of the political spectrum. I do not hold many of the opinions that the ACLU espouses, but they are not some treasonous organization that is destroying the fabric of American society. Totalitarians they are not.

ACLU defends the right to free speech, and accepts cases both from the left and the right (remember when they defended the right of the Nazis to march in Skokie?) Heck, why just ban them, why not just get rid of the First Amendment while we're at it?

Yes, let's ban everything we don't agree with. It worked for the Nazis and the Soviets, right?
