AATBS and Gerry Grossman books are often a bit out of date. They are not updated frequently and can sometimes inadvertently contain misinformation because of the lack of updates. AATBS in particular is quite dry. Want to find out what the perfect study materials are for YOU? I used AATBS to prep for the California MFT licensing exam. I unfortunately failed the Written Exam (1st of 2 exams) twice. I had a copy of the Grossman, Live & Learn, and AATBS materials that I used to study for the exam, and in general, I got the most out of AATBS. Second to this, I feel that the Live & Learn was very strong. In particular, I feel the Law and Ethics sections were very strong, as well as the sections on theories. They do a great job of comparing and contrasting the various systems theorists. One of the things I liked best about AATBS was how things were clearly organized, and how there were summary quizzes after each section. You could scan through and just familiarize yourself with key phrases if you needed to, or read the whole thing.
