Mon Jun 23 2014got one in my mailbox today. damn. this is the sixth time I have been called for jury duty. at least it is for one week. I gave it an "okay" since there are far worse things that could happen in my life or show up in a mailbox. I hope that week next month when I am scheduled is a very slow week and I do NOT have to go in much. it's also about a 12 mile drive one way. crap. In one more week I start Jury duty for one week. Keeping my fingers crossed I do NOT have to go all five days or get seated for a trial.UPDATE: I only had to go one day, slow week i guess. did not get my named called either.Guess the judge has a sense of humor. he told the remaining potential juror they could give a sigh of relief after we exited the court room.UPDATE:talk about keeping it in the family. one week after i finished my week of jury duty, my daughter got a summons for jury duty for mid JULY.same county different court house. yikes!

Sat Jun 07 2014I got called for jury duty a few years ago and went because of the payment. I was sitting there and then I spotted a process server from one of my ex-wives. I had to get out of there and never got paid. That was a bummer.

Mon May 05 2014Thankfully, a jury summons is a pretty infrequent thing. However, I've lived in various places, so I've received two summons. Luckily, my number wasn't called the first time. The second time, I got called and even went through the voir dire thing. It was a murder trial too, which sucked. They called my number, but I told the judge that my employer wouldn't pay for me to be a part of this, so he understood, and let me off right there. Thank you, Judge Miller. Anyway, this is kind of a long review, and I have no idea as to why. Thanks for reading.

Sun May 04 2014I've been summoned 3 times but never selected to be on a jury. Personally, I think that juries should be selected based on how well they understand the law. At times, jurors are selected in spite of that. Some of the questions that are brought to courts, especially in civil jurisdictions are overly complex for the layman to understand, especially on background and context.

Tue Jul 03 2012***ATTENTION BURGLARS*** Got one and that's where I'm heading right now. (Please walk the dogs.) Up Date: Well, I have been excused from jury duty. It was easy... When I was asked if I have ever been the victim of a crime, I said "No, but that if this trial was going to be about child abuse, that I believe the defendant should be executed." Then he asked how I felt about someone selling drugs. I answered, "Well, he should be executed." The he asked how I felt about cruelty to animals and I responded, "Executed." Then, the attorney leaned in and rested his elbow on the bench and asked about bicycle theft. "Lethal injection." Finally, he asked how I felt about someone defaming The Dude on the internet. I stood up, took off my jacket, pierced the sacks of red blood dye I had taped to my chest, jumped over the railing into the middle of the courtroom and screamed "Attica! Attica! We're all going to die!" And that's how you get out of jury duty.

Thu Sep 04 2008I've only received one such summons in my life...so far, at least...and was never quite sure why. I vote, I've never served jail or prison time, I pay taxes. Not that I necessarily wanted to serve on a jury, but it always struck me as odd that I never received a summons. When I did finally receive one, it was marked for a different county. I called the courthouse, told them about the error, and never heard from them again. If I ever do get stuck on a jury, it will hopefully be for an interesting case. Some years ago, my aunt, who lived at the Jersey Shore, received a jury summons for a trial involving some Mafia thugs who (allegedly) beat a man to death with golf clubs. My aunt had Italian In-Laws, other Italian relatives, and Italian friends, but she was terrified. When she was being questioned about her suitability for the jury, she was asked by the lawyer what she thought of Italians. She replied, "I think they're pretty seedy and untrustworthy." Needless to say, she was excused fro... Read more

Thu Sep 04 2008They don't bug me anymore since they sent three to my mom's house while I was on active duty and she sent them back marked "active duty, US Marines." If I got one now the defense attorney wouldn't want me since military folk tend to convict people more often.
