Mon Aug 17 2009I used Pacific Rent A Car to save (literally) $3 per day for a 3 day trip. What a mistake!!! But, live and learn. I should have known when we pulled up and the rental car company also does go cart tours... One morning I came out to my 2006 Suzuki something or other, which had already exceeded it's useful rental car life, and the car would not start. The "emergency roadside assistance" didn't open until after 8 AM, and I needed to be at my client's office at 6:30 AM. When the emergency roadside service did call me back, they scheduled a jump, who proceeded to charge me $35 for his services. Pacific Rent A Car promised to refund my $35, but refused to do so upon return of the vehicle because they felt the battery on their clunker was somehow my responsibility. Suffice it to say, I will NEVER use this company again on my many trips to California and I would highly recommend you stay away as well!

Mon Dec 01 2008We made our car reservations only 2 days before we were to arrive at the San Diego airport. After searching the internet I stumbled upon a GREAT deal at Pacific Rent a Car. Between not being famliar with the company and the great price, my expectations were not high. In fact, I was very worried. This is one time when the phrase "you get what you pay for" did NOT apply. We were picked up from the airport promptly and the rental car assigned to us was ideal for our needs. They wanted to please us and therefore were accomodating to our wishes. Their service was as good, if not better, upon return of the car. Because it is a small company they are able to give their customers individual attention and provide excellent service. In addition, the price was unbeatable.

Sun Nov 30 2008Do not pay attention to any of the negative postings for Pacific Rent a Car on this site. The new owners have done a great job fixing any of the previous owners or managements faults. The mini van was immaculate, the staff was friendly and helpful. They made recommendaions that were awesome in terms of a few quick local things to do and how to get there. They did not seem to mind the time it took ( at the end of their workday) to give us directions and make sure we understood where to leave the car when we returned from Palm Springs. They have gone above and beyond most car rental experiences. I will definately use them again next year when I return to San Diego. I highly recommend.

Sun Nov 23 2008We arrived later than planned and when we called for our pick up, they knew we were tired and picked us up immediately. We had 4 adults, a baby, and LOTS of luggage and baby stuff. We fit everything in our mini-van. The lady at the counter mapped out many points of interest that were not the usual tourist traps. All directions were clear to help us save time and money. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone traveling to the San Diego area. Location was close to our hotel and closer still to the airport. The return trip to the airport was quick and easy and the drivers were very helpful and knowledgeable. A++++++

Tue Nov 27 2007Went there in Nov 2007, fast service, prices were the cheapest I found, and the car was clean and well maintained. The guy I spoke with was pretty friendly and had a lot of knowledge about the area and what I should see. Highly recommend it.

Mon Oct 01 2007As the new owner of Pacific Rent A Car, since mid August of 2007, I can confirm that there have been no charges to the to the customer's credit card made from anyone currently employed with our office and we had no knowledge of this situation until now. I am sorry that this happend to (paoloroma 9/16/07) and I agree with him that the charge in question should definitely be disputed.

Sat Sep 15 2007Hi. I rented from Pacific Rent-a-Car in August 2006 and a year later in August 2007 they have tried to debit my credit card for 680 dollars. I have been on the phone with them and they say that they know nothing about this debit and my name is not in their system. Luckily my credit card company has passed this as fraudulent use and therefore I will not be charged. This is just to warn any of you that these people cannot be trusted!

Sat Sep 08 2007I was back in San Diego for business and was staying in Little Italy so, I thought it would be convenient to rent from Pacific Rent A Car again since it was walking distance from my hotel. These guys have come a long way from a year ago. (Change of ownership) The cars were new and clean. The staff had changed and everyone was freindly and professional. The service is much more personal compared to the national companies and most importantly, it was a great value. It is too bad that they only have one location but, if you are just renting for local driving it's not a problem. I would highly recommend this car rental agency to anyone that is planning a trip to San Diego.

Fri Mar 02 2007I thought I was getting the inside scoop when a kind man at the airport's information desk told me about Pacific Renta-Car; "They will give you a great deal....we have been sending people to them for years!" Once I arrived at the rental office, I was asked how many days I wanted the car, I said one day, and was told to have it back by 4:30 the following afternoon. I was quoted around $29 for the rental, which I thought was very cheap. Well, the car was awful!!! It was dirty, smelled terrible, had dings and dents all over it, and felt like it was going to fall apart when I drove over 45mph...honestly, the whole parking lot was full of crappy cars! I returned the car at 2:00, well before when I was expected to return it. When asked for my credit card, I was told it would be $105! I asked for the breakdown of charges and they said I had the car for two days and even after I explained what I was told the previous day, they said if I ever rent again from them, they will give me a disc... Wed Nov 01 2006Wow, Pacific Rent-A-Car was one of my rock bottom consumer experiences. Just the highlights: - an hour's wait at the airport for the shuttle to arrive - dismissive service and surly staff when picking up and dropping off the car - the mangiest-looking worst-handling vehicle you can imagine paying to drive Granted, I got what I paid for, or thought I paid for until I got my credit card statement and found they'd charged me almost 50% more than agreed upon. Don't give these fly-by-nighters your money!
