Like many have said, 7 Up Gold was one of the best sodas EVER! When it came out, I stopped drinking Colas and would drink Gold exclusively. I never got tired of it and couldn't drink enough. Hard to believe sales were disappointing. At the 7-11 I used to buy it from, they couldn't keep it on the shelves because it would sell out so fast. If the folks over at 7Up were smart, they would sell it every year around the Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years holidays. Since it is spicy drink, I think it would do well around the holidays. Then, once more people get used to it, they could eventually sell it all year round again. And if they feel it goes against the 7Up philosophy of "Never Had It, Never Will" they can just market it as Dr. Pepper Gold since they say it was originally a Dr. Pepper recipe.

Wow, Im really surprised by all the positive reviews on this one since I can never find anyone who even REMEMBERS this stuff let alone liked it. I personally thought it was awful when I tried it but, in reading these reviews I see a few people compared it to Vernors, which I like quite a bit. So maybe it was just too complex a flavor for my young tastebuds.

My husband and I first tasted 7 Up Gold in the summer of 1988, but never found it again after that. Wow! We loved it and would still buy it today if it were available - and we rarely buy sodas. Maybe one of the companies could repackage it as a "spice" soda - I'm sure it would compete well with today's market.

My favorite soda ever! There was only one convenience store near my work that I would walk the extra 4 blocks to get it.

7 UP Gold is probably the only soda that has ever left a nostalgic memory for soda in my mind. It is hands down one of the best soda's I every had. I remember it was my senior year of HS I was working at a quick stop store and would drink it by the gallon, 7UP gold and bag of funonions. HEAVEN

it was great. It tasted like the popular Italian drink from Sanpellegrino called 'Chinotto' . you can get it from Italian stores in the States. I did an experiment and added a touch of ginger ale to Chinotto and they were about the same taste. The ginger ale took out the bitterness of the Chinotto. If you miss the drink try the Chinotto / ginger ale mix. The problem is that no one liked the sound of a spice drink. the marketing was all wrong.

It was a slightly sweeter iteration of Vernor's, and if you liked it you should get some Vernor's here http://www.vernors.com/default.asp because unlike 7-Up Gold, Vernor's is still made, if hard to find in some parts of the country.

I really miss this. My last taste was in 1991. I found an old expired can at a convenience store. Yumm!

This stuff was terrible. The main problem was that the taste was not definable and completely unrecognizable. Pepsi Clear did taste like it a little bit. It is human instinct to not like something that is so completely unfamiliar. The product DID have caffeine and color. It was originally designed to be a line extension of the Dr. Pepper brand, but when Dr. Pepper and 7up merged, the drink was reborn into the 7up family brand. Big mistake for 7up. Clearly a good move for the Dr. Pepper division of Dr. Pepper/7up Company. When the company introduced the product to the independent system of 7up bottlers with a lot of flare along with the "Wild Thing" music blaring (remember their advertisements?), the entire room was stunned and silent, and the bottler owners walked out shaking their heads and mumbling under their breath. The product had no chance from that point on. It was truly a DOG, as those in the beverage industry would call it. It was everything that original 7up was not. Even wor... Read more

Bring it back. I agree, spam 7up till they bring it back. I can't believe they discontinued this and kept Cherry. The main reason they discontinued was not because of profits, but because it was not 'clear' nor was it 'caffeinated.'

One of my favorite beverages ever conceived. I think I know why it disappeared, they found out we LIKED it. They always take away the good stuff. People at 7-UP, the people have spoken! Bring back 7-up Gold!

Man...I really MISS this stuff! I drank a ton of it when it was out, sometime in the early nineties and I was living in California. I don't think it flopped -- I wish it would come BACK!

This was a quality soda that I was sad to see go. For those of you who enjoy it you may like a soda called Vernors that is still on the market. It would be nice to have 7up Gold back on the market!!!

7UP Gold was my all-time favorite soda. In the late '80s, I bought it often in Northern California. Shorly after it disappeared, I asked the mfr - and much like you've heard before, I was told sales were way off (and at $3 a six-pack, it's no wonder! it couldn't compete with the popular stuff selling for half the price) So I went digging for 'Gold. On a hunch, I asked for the local distributer and found tons were available... at $1.50. 'Bout time they priced it right. But their minimum order was 10 CASES! And I bought 'em anyway. A 15 mile drive and $60+ later, a guy came zippin' 'round on a fork lift and dropped off a palette filled with 'Gold. Suddenly I was thirsty! The cans lasted over 2 years. After I drank the last one, I thought I might save it for nostalgia. Today I discovered this site and uploaded a photo. Glad to read about others supporting the product. So far nothing matches that great spicey taste of 7UP Gold, but for other 'Gold fans I'd recommend trying a ... Read more

I really liked the stuff and it would be nastalgia to see it back again. I sent an email to 7-UP about it and they gave me the line that it was testmarketed and unsuccessful and that it wasn't profitable, but what they fail to realize is that this is 2006, nearly 20 years later and a whole new crop of people out there who might like it. I've tried mixing 7-UP with Chy tea, even cinnamen schnaaps, etc., but it still is not the same what I remember. Wish I knew what all those ingredients were to try to make my own batch. I think if those of us who really liked 7-UP Gold would inundate 7-UP with the request to bring it back, maybe something will happen. We can only hope. Seems like all those pops with lemon, lime, and cherry, which are easily concocted stay around, something you can make at home anytime. Can't figure that one out. Let's bring back the GOLD.

I loved 7-Up Gold and wish they would bring it back. I heard that it was pulled because i didnt conform to their slogan "Never had it, never will" referring to caffeine. 7-Up Gold had it. Still, i wish they would bring it back.

The last time I drank this was in 1992; somehow a minimart had a few cans. It has always stayed with me as my favorite cola. Why can't they bring it back?

I LOVED 7UP Gold. Sadly it didn't last long on the market & I don't know why, because there was really nothing else out there like it. It had almost cinnamon/caramel flavour to it. 7UP should resurrect it. With all of the "flavoured" sodas out there these days, it would be a huge hit!

7up--if you love us, you will bring back 7up Gold. This was one of the best tasting, coolest soda's ever to be released! It's delicious and looked awesome. I associate it with the best memories from my 80's childhood, right up there with NES Super Mario Brothers and the great music of the 80's (which, notice you hear 80's influence in music now)... PLEASE BRING BACK 7up GOLD!!!!

Man did I love 7UP Gold. I couldn't get enough of the stuff, then it was gone. For a while the 7UP people had the explanation on their website that it wasn't profitable to produce. At the very least I wish they would do a seasonal run of 7UP Gold again so I can get a fix.

I absolutely loved the gold stuff. It was the only pop I ever drank. Honestly. I may drink a can of pop once a year. But I just couldn't get enough of 7up gold. Finally!! A pop I liked, and they took it away. I've heard you can buy anything on the internet, but I've yet to find this stuff. If they ever come out with it again, I'll stock-pile my basement and attic full of it.

I liked it myself, but my wife absolutely adored it. She switched from Dr. Pepper, which if you knew her then, you would know how big that was. I have been attempting to find out if there is any way to make it myself out of regular 7UP. I know some spice was involved. Some people have said cinnamon, but while that might possibly be one of the ingredients, I know there was something else in there that gave it its taste. Never know, maybe if we get a lot of people to request it, they might bring it back.

7-up test-marketed 'Gold' in the Seattle area around Memorial Day 1988, while I was on vacation there. Terrific stuff; it was great by itself and made a great mix with bourbon or rum. I went through several cases on vacation, then, when I returned to Iowa, it was available in Des Moines, for, like, ONE DAY! I don't know how companies make these decisions, but this was a bad one. This innovative product was never given sufficient chance. Look at how much attention's been given to non-starters like Crystal Pepsi!
