Prominent Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates arrested at his Home in Cambridge, MA

Check the laws of Cambridge, MA.
The law regarding disorderly conduct, which is what Gates was charged with, SPECIFICALLY EXCLUDES verbal abuse of a police officer from the criteria. SPECIFICALLY!!
And if he was, or was attempting to physically attack Crowley, the charge of assault on a police officer would have been justifiably leveled against Gates. That didn't happen. Which tells us that Crowley took things too far by reacting emotionally to the verbal abuse by Gates. He lost his professional demeanor in that situation.
There were no legal grounds for charging him. Period.
Neither party handled this well, and first, the charge should be dropped (if it hasn't been already), and second the media and the bigots on BOTH sides should let this pass into soon forgotten history.
