Prominent Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates arrested at his Home in Cambridge, MA 3

I wasn't an eye witness, so I'll refrain from jumping in on either side of this issue until all facts of the matter are at hand.

However, I suspect neither the officer nor the professor is going to come out smelling like a rose.

UPDATE:

Those who've rushed to judgement (on either side) only expose their own biases and agendas, and are not to be taken seriously.

UPDATE:

Of all the people who've jumped to conclusions about this unfortunate incident, President Obama has been the most foolhardy.

Angry white guys have been carrying on the way they usually do.

I'm still not going to reach a verdict, but I suspect the Professor's overreaction provoked the officer into losing his temper.

Recently, I watched a very drunk 'black' girl try to insert her key in her car door after the bar closed, whilst a 'white' cop gently remonstrated with her, "Please don't get in the car. If you enter your car, I will have to arrest you." He repeated himself every time she let him get a word in edgewise.

She called him all sorts of mf'rs and ranted and raved.

This went on for nearly a half hour, until finally one of the girl's friends convinced her to take a ride home and come back for the car the next day.

It's great to see a real professional in action. Unfortunately, there aren't all that many of them.

UPDATE:

The actual incident was really insignificant (to those of us not directly involved), but the corporate media, reactionary rightwing pundits, and President Obama have managed to blow it all out of proportion.

Whats their agenda?

To each his own.

Got it, thanks

Gates did not deny one word of the police officer's story or his report.
There is no so-called "rush to judgment". Ridiculous.

The 'rush to judgment' was made in near world record time by our reliably biased and hyper-myopic 'mainstream' media.

Here we get a glimpse of dueling mindsets. On the one hand there are those predisposed to believe the police can do nothing right, and on the other those who are convinced cops can do no wrong.

Have at it, folks. You both look foolish to me.

Here we get a glimpse of a cantankerous old prick (Admins: don't jump the gun here; it's exactly how he describes himself in his profile), who is a serial offender against honest and open discussion and debate, who violates EACH AND EVERY tenet of said discussion(s)/debate(s) that he HIMSELF admonishes others to adhere to (the RIA archives teem with evidence, this topic harboring the most recent examples of his repugnant hypocrisy) and who apparently is so lonely and attention starved that he'd just as soon inspire negative responses as opposed to no responses at all. Bratty 2 years olds exhibit this behavior frequently.
I've tried to be to be reasonable with you, as I know many others have (again, the archives prove this convincingly), but you, sir, are simply a lost cause.
You're the only one who looks foolish, friend.
Have you checked that mirror yet?

Note to my new "fan":

Because I abhor censorship, I long ago asked management to allow any and all invective directed at me to stand... no matter how childish.

jeez jman, lighten up.

Foolish man, the Cambridge police absolutely "acted stupidly" in this matter. Once Prof. Gates showed his ID, the police should have left. PERIOD. There is no law against yelling at a cop, and there is no law saying you have to kiss their butts.
