Sedale was acquirred by the Lakers before the 1991-92 season from the Seattle Supersonics for draft picks and it was thought his acquistion would make the Lakers the championship favorites even over the Chicago Bulls as it gave the Lakers a quality backup point guard that could run the offense, score and defend which the team so desperately needed for Magic Johnson. However Magic tested positive for HIV during the exhibiton season and it forced Sedale into the starting role where he played extremely well (15ppg and 7 apg) which was not an easy thing to do given that he had to replace Magic Johnson and helped on defense by getting 2 stea per game (Chick Hearn refered to him a "The Thief"). He was solid for also in the 1992-93 season and then was a quality backup guard (also getting 15ppg and 7apg) when the Lakers put Nick Van Exel into the starting lineup. Had Magic been healthy for the 1991-92 season, this would have been the best Lakers team in the post Kareem Era, with Sedale comig off the bench and the best overall club since te 86-87 squad. Never the less Sedale did a great job as a Laker.
