The MP3 player is a record player that is really small, very portable and capable of storing lots and lots of music.  Is that really that important to the course of world history?  On the up side artists have unprecidented ability to produce and distribute their own music.  On the down side, from the big record companies' perspective the digital on-line world has reduced music from being a collectable art form to being transferable data, a commodity whose value is based on the ability to produce it, sell it and store it at the lowest possible cost.  Frankly, it shows when you listen to what is being sold in the digital market.  As Paul Simon wrote though, "the music suffers when the music business thrives."

Great invention. Join Itunes and download your golden oldies for $.99 if you can't find them in the store.

Instead of carrying a bulky CD player or cassette tape player and hoping your favorite song comes on the radio, why not just buy the songs you like off of the Internet (iTunes and Yahoo Music for example) and sync them to an MP3 player? It saves you money and it beats having to buy whole CDs when you'll only listen to three of the songs on em' anyway.
