This was the worst experience ever in renting a car that was advertised at a discount rate. They supposedly obtained a certain rate from Alamo, however, when I went to the counter the Alamo rate was approximately $50 higher on a four day rental. While Alamo had the confirmation the rate in their computer was completely different. I went online at the counter and tried to find customer service at carrentals.com. It doesn't exist!!!

This is a terrible site and should be shut down by the Better Business Bureau. I reserved a car and was not told that there were limitations to my reservation until after it had been confirmed. The search I did said there was unlimited mileage. The confirmation said that was only in the tristate area and wanted to charge me for anything over. There is no phone number that I can find online for this site. They are a scam. Do not use them! If you are unfortunate enough to have already been screwed, do the rest of us a favor and report carrentals.com to the BBB and whomever their rental partner was. As far as i can see, all of their partners are just as shifty and unreliable as the site they are listed on.

I think this website does what it does extremely well. Carrentals.com simply finds available car rental rates and lets you pick one. They aren't recommending the companies, they're finding the information and letting you decide. I started using carrentals.com when my wife and I planned a trip to Las Vegas, the rates found on carrentals.com were 70% less than any other vendor/website (except hotwire.com which was comparable). Since then, we use carrentals.com for every trip and consistently save at least a hundred dollars every time. So far, all the cheap no-name rental companies that we rent from have been extremely helpful, however we are prepared for the worst when we rent from the cheapest of the cheap. I don't understand why people are giving bad reviews to Carrentals.com because they chose the cheapest rate possible and didn't like the vendor. Put a bad review out for the car rental vendor that wasn't good, not the website that found you a deal at every vendor possible.

I would give this company a zero star rating if it was available! Horrible customer service by the company they set us up with - A Plus Rentals in San Diego. When we arrived to pick up the vehicle we were told that A Plus Rentals has no control over what is on the CarRentals.com website so they don't have to honor the agreement. What?? Additionally, when we finally got a vehcile, it was so low on gas I was afraid we wouldn't make it to a gas station. The attendant at A Plus Rentals stated that there is no access to gasoline in the Encinitas area of San Diego. Do they think we're stupid? If there is no access to gas, how are we supposed to buy gas? The man who insisted he's the manager, Tommy Jones, says that the owner of A Plus Rentals lives in Hawaii and therefore can't be contacted. Tommy Jones has the worst customer service skills I've ever encountered. His only answers for our dissatisfaction are that he's not responsible for what it states on the website or on the cont... I joined the club of carRentals.com's victims. This website lists a lot of little know rental car companies that have ridiculous cancellation policy. However, on their FAQ page, they try their best to be deceiving. Q: What is your cancellation policy? A: Some of our reservations require a credit card to secure a booking, most do not. If we ask you for a credit card, then you will need to cancel the reservation ahead of the scheduled pick up time in order to avoid a cancellation fee from the vendors. However, if we did not ask for your credit card information, there is no fee for a cancellation. It gives you the impression that canceling before picking up is good enough. You will need to dig in painstakingly in order to find the exotic cancellation policy specific to a vendor. When I canceled my reservation, there was not any kind of warning. It just said: Cancellation Confirmation Your cancellation has successfully been processed. Cancellation Code: xxxxxxx Again, they try ... Read more

Universal Rent-A-Car 5400 Dixie Road Mississauga I made this car rental reservation through www.carrental.com. The reservation was through 'Universal Rent-A-Car'. This company has absolutely horrendous customer service. The people working at this establishment exhibit no professional behavior. First, I was left standing in the cold when I reached the Toronto airport because of their lack of directions. Then the person picking me up blamed me for my in competence in following directions. Second, the person refused to show me my option of cars, and threatened me if I did not like the car he was offering, I could cancel the reservation and pay the one day charge which was a part of the reservation. Third, I got a flat tire on the second day of the rental, which resulted in me changing the tire and paying for the $200 tire as well, because the owner of this rental company claimed that it was my responsibility and probably my fault. I have never had such an awful customer se... Read more

I reserved on November 21, 2007 with CarRentals.com (Universal Rent A Car) for a compact car at PEARSON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (YYZ) in Toronto Canada, which should be picked 10:00 PM on December 21, 2007. I even received an e-mail from this company reminding me this reservation. When I arrived in Toronto (YYZ) about 9:30PM on December 21, I called the number they gave me (Universal Rent A Car 1-866-303-5888) asking for the instructed shuttle pick up. The representative answering the phone told me that there was no car available for me, because someone supposed to return the car but did not. He also said that he probably gave me a car next day. Fortunately there was shuttle bus between the airport (YYZ) and the hotel I reserved. On the next day (December 22), I called the number (Universal Rent A Car 1-866-303-5888) at 9:00 AM, nobody answered phone. So don't be fooled by their low price as me. This company is not worth to do business with.
