i used this dye in the color 'midnight' which is a pure black without any blue undertone. i really liked it at first, and it lasts through quite a bit of shampoos but getting it out is a pain. i used colorfix by one 'n only and that hardly even got it out of my hair. my hair is naturally light brown and with the roots growing out i wanted to get the black out. i'm so dissappointed at how permanent it is when the box states that it's a semi-permanent dye. i don't think i'll ever use any of the clairol natural instinct dyes again because i'm afraid it will be permanent...

Natural Instincts is a demi-permanent hair color, so it's low on peroxide, free of ammonia, and easy on the olfactory nerve. Its palette skews toward the darker end of the spectrum, probably because without the heavy-duty peroxide, it doesn't have much lifting power. Unfortunately, it also doesn't advertise this very clearly (there's a small note on the bottom of the box), so I bought it thinking I was getting permanent color. Not surprisingly, therefore, the light brown shade I had chosen only darkened my hair back to its original near-black. That was my error and is no reflection on the product, BUT Clairol promises color that will last last through about 25 washings; my color started fading after just three or four.
