Republicans didn't even bother to put up a candidate this year in Arkansas. This is quite a blunder for the party, especially considering that Barack Obama is not expected to compete here that strongly. Polls suggested that a strong candidate could have given Pryor a strong run, but the Republicans didn't bother trying. Former Gov. Mike Huckabee would have been the strongest challenger available, and I think he might have beaten Pryor. Granted, Pryor is in good political shape, but still, it is incredible that a state that votes reliably Republican in Presidential races did not even put up a Senate candidate. At the local and state levels, Arkansas is conservative Democrat, but at the national level, they trend Republican.
