The River (Bruce Springsteen)

As Reagan era anthems to lives lived in quiet desperation go, you'd have a hard time beating this one.  No prospects, no future, the guy in the song knocks up his girlfriend, has a shotgun wedding, gets a crummy construction job, gets laid off, grows distant from his wife and goes down to the river......

I'm not  really a fan of Bruce Springsteen, and I don't use to listen his music, but I really love this song. I don't know why, because first time I listened it I can not understand the song's letter, but since I was young and listened by first time, this song makes me feel so "sentimental".
