    His version is very heartfelt. I don't know if it eclipses the original, but it is surely different in a good way.

    I agree with Franks Wild Years. For my money  Richie Haven's cover is even better than the original.

    I like Richie's earthy vocal on the song and the simplicity of his rendition.  The Beatles' version is a bit too polished, and has become a cliche that they drag out on the first really nice day of spring every year.

    Havens did lots of Beatles and Dylan interpretations, but this song was his only real hit, a 1971 take on the song that made the top 20. It's good, though Havens, a black folk/ folk rock singer with a pretty distinct guitar style, who was respected and relatively popular back then, had a unique voice that could be something of an acquired taste. Havens is possibly best remembered as the first significant act to appear at Woodstock, where his performance of his own track "Freedom" was a stirring highlight of the film.
