A crack band and major concert draw in their day, the Guess Who put out a string of strong albums from '69 to '74 that could perform respectably if released today.  The prime period band featured two great songwriters and Burton Cummings had a powerhouse of a voice.  After a twenty year hiatus they reformed and are still a great live act, although they continue to cruise on the solid gold hits of their yesterday.2

Solid act overall, pretty diverse bunch that were played on both FM and AM stations, and probably the biggest Canadian rock act of all in America from about 1969-1974. Some of their hits, like "American Woman were hard rock, some were blues rock like "No Sugar Tonight/ New Mother Nature,a few were sort of light psychedelic pop/ hippie Freedom Rock stuff , such as "Share the Land," and others like "These Eyes" and "Undun" were almost middle of the road ballads. They did have a pretty terrible ripoff of The Doors on one of their early albums called "Friends of Mine," which parroted Morrison's vocal stylings and poetic lyrics way too much, but overall a pretty good band. 3.56

When these guys were hot, back in the '70s, I didn't like them much.

With the passage of time, however, I've come to realize that they were very accomplished, both as musicians and songwriters.

Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman are a great duo, Cummings with strong vocals and keyboard work that is among the best in the business. Bachman, while not brilliant on guitar, is very good, and plays a wide range of styles.

The body of work is very good, and while I seem to recall a few clunkers, I don't remember what they were called.
