A 3.5. Competently made, and quite gripping in places. Because the films were to a large degree made at the same time, they don't suffer as much from the normal decline in quality of most "franchises"

This was a pretty good trilogy.  The only problem was they could get slow in certain parts in the movie and they are long.

It's hard to pick which film, I like the best because all three of them are good.

Good points by all the previous reviewers. While I agree that the franchise is movie-making on a grand scale and quite an accomplishment I still felt that something was lacking. I never felt drawn in either by the characters or the story. Far too many long battle sequences and not enough storytelling.

Flawless, brilliant filmaking. Peter Jackson & Co. knocked one out the park with this trilogy. The accolades heaped upon it by it's throng of adoring fans are well-deserved.

The first movie was true to the novels. The next two were very good, but a bit of a let down.

Give me vivid reality, not virtual.
