Where do I start? I too work for Macy's. First of all I would like to comment on sparkle1's review. She works for M.A.C. where they do things right. They are not commisioned. they get a very nice hourly pay, through M.A.C. The employees there are always happy because they don't follow the typical Macy's rules and don't get the pressure that other employees get. Next, lady1 (below) is totally a manager. I just want to slap her because she used all of the slogans (lies) that all of the managers use. I put their Medical insurance to the test recently and found out that Macy's makes money off of their employees who are covered. It was going to cost me around $158/ month with thier group blue cross blue shield medical only. I then went straight to blue cross blue shield myself and requested a quote on an individual plan with the same exact coverage, deductable, and everything. I was quoted $122. I took the individual plan and it ended up being $125 after all was said and done. Now, why would the group plan cost more then the individual plan? Where is that $25 going? Macy's pocket? I encourage all employees with medical coverage to do the same test. Yes, there may be alot of companies that try to push the credit cards, but is that really good for society as a whole? They tell us that we need to open credits because the employees spend more and Macy's makes more, but is it really ethical to pressure people into going into debt for Macy's own selfish benefit? Macy's does offer a fantastic 20% discount on almost everything to it's employees, but the only way to get the discount is to purchase with your macy's card which charges 22% interest or more. If you have a balance on your card they get alot of that discount back! No other forms of payment are excepted if you want your discount. So basically they force their employees to establish credit with them so again, they bank off of their employees. This company lies and deceives more than any other company that I have ever worked for. The holidays season is upon us and numbers are way down. Upper management is coming down on us hard. They blame us for their mistakes. Employees have lost so much in 401k's because of the decline in Macy's stock. A friend of mine who has been there for nearly 25 years has lost almost $21,000.00 within the past 2 years. Yes, thats twenty-one thousand dollars! I do not plan to make any long term investment with this company and anyone who chooses to needs to do so with caution. I too, would not even give them 1 star, but I have too here.

Hechts was the department store that I always went to around Christmas, but they were one of the several chains bought out and renamed by Macy's. If I head to a department store, it will likely be Macy's.

I've already been once and will no doubt go back before Christmas. They seem to be absorbing all the major stores in the country and just gobbled up one of our old mainstays. So, when it comes to the medium/higher end stuff, we haven't been left with a huge choice.

Good sale will guarantee my presense there. I normally hit Kenneth Cole, INC, and Dkny corners - just my style!

I like Macy's well enough, but you're taking a gamble if you're buying for someone else here. Well, let's see, what do they have: 1) Clothes. You're running the risk of getting something either too big or too small, either of which may offend the recipient ("Oh my god, they think I'm THAT fat??" or "Yeah, they've got to be KIDDING if they think I'm going to squeeze into THAT!") 2). Shoes. (see above). 3). Handbags. Hope that you know their tastes well enough to choose a pattern for them. 4). Jewelry. (see above). 5. Perfume/makeup. Hope that you got their favorite scents, otherwise it's a waste. Unless the person is practically your twin, you probably want to avoid this.
