A pleasure to fire because it stayed on target without jumping around. It was a reasonable shoulder weapon in spite of its 22 lb weight. It was capable of firing a qualifying 190 on a rifle range in single shot mode. Its flaw was time consuming maintenance.

Used the Canadian version, the C-6. Loved the rate of fire and rarely jammed on me but it was a bitch to clean. Canadian tradition has the smallest man in the section carrying this bad boy. (As the tallest, I carried the radio)

Basically a copy of the WW II German MG42 - but screwed up a bit in trying to improve it. Nevertheless, a decent weapon. I only fired it for qualification during infantry basic (did moderately lousily with it), but had a very painful experience with it - literally. I went to displace the gun and instead of grabbing the carrying handle, I reflexively grabbed the barrel (I was used to the old Browning air-cooled)with my left hand. It left a helluva burn on the palm of my hand due to the hot, unshielded barrel. Never made that mistake again.
