Had bad experience with my little chihuahuas, took the time to gradually transition, but experienced very watery messy stool. Just didn't work for them. Still looking for something for their sensitive stomachs.

Seems to be a pretty good food overall. The fact that Diamond may (unclear whether they do or if they just lease space at a Diamond plant) make it makes me shy away from it as I've had problems with other Diamond products. For the money I think there are better products on the market.

I have three golden retrievers aged 3,2,and 1. I put them on Canidae Chicken and Rice formula when looking for a food low in fillers and with mostly natural ingredients. All three of my goldens are very healthy, have beautiful coats, and no allergy problems. We have used Canidae for a little over 2 years now. When Canidae recently switched their formula the feed store where I buy Canidae said the manufacturer said I didn't have to make a slow switch. They were wrong about that--initially the new formula was a bit different for them to digest but within a few days they were fine. They always eat their food and never turn their noses up to it. I am always looking for dog food reviews and am planning on staying with Canidae for now although I was a bit concerned when I heard of Diamond being the new manufacturer. I have recently read great reviews for Evo and am considering mixing 2/3 Canidae with 1/3 Evo to give my dogs a little variety. I do worry about too much protein in some foods. I... Read more

Normally have been rotating my 1 yr old boston terrier between the lamb and chicken formulations. The lamb-rice formulation (new formulation)gave him very soft, runny stools for over 1 1/2 months. Switching him to the chicken-rice (new formulation) caused BLOODY, loose stools with the addition of VOMITING. He never experienced any of these problems with the previous formulation --- STAY AWAY FROM THIS FOOD

After a bad experience with Holistic Blend, I tried Canidae and the dogs did very well. The itching also stopped.

My dogs would barely eat this food at first.  Very recently the formula has changed and 2 of my dogs have had some vomiting and loose stools.  We will no longer be feeding Canidae, and the retailer I buy it from is pulling one of the "changed" formulas and no longer carrying it due to similar customer complaints.

Good price, but nothing special. This food is much better than a lot of grocery brands, but still cannot compete with the grain-free diet.

i put both of my boxers on this food after my puppy had a SEVERE reaction to another food (diarrhea, continuous vomiting) after i spoke to the vet of this particular company she admitted that it was because of the food going bad somehow. i places them on canidae after this incident and they are now on their 4th bag (33 lb bag) and they love it!! my puppy never had had firm formed stools and now she does. their coats are shiny and glossy and can't wait to eat now even though they get feed 3 times a day! i love that it is grain free ( as my puppy is allergic to grains as well) and organic and made of human grade food. i also buy this food for about $35.00 online including shipping and handling. Which is better than the $50.00 price tag in local stores. I also give them a little Merricks canned food every one in a while to break up the flavors they get.

I like the ingredients and our Bloodhound ate it but I think there was more to be desired out of the taste and I don't think she liked how small it was, it would fall out of her mouth when she ate, that seemed to irritate her so we had to add a little peanut butter to it to help hold some of it together and to add a little more flavor.  She done very well on it.

My toy poodle of 5 months old won't eat this food either. I'm happy for those whose dogs do well on this, but not at all for mine. Although being a good eater, he stopped eating once we switched to Canidae Chicken & Rice. He just simply walked away and refused to eat even when he was hungry. We had to hand-feed him many times and even then he was hesitating. His itching and paw-chewing problems became very bad that his hair got all matted for chewing himself aggressively. We continued on it for a month as we've read a lot of good reviews, but then he started to vomit and have diarrhea, which never happened on his previous food. We tried medicating him, but as soon as he started on this food again his problems came back. Another thing I noticed too was that his poop got really large and smelly after this food. I don't understand why as they claim to help reduce stool quantity and odor. Sorry, I don't mean to discredit this product, but my pup just did badly on this. We have to ... Read more

Great food. i have a 8 month old miniature Australian Shepherd that has been on another "high quality" natural food for several months. Prior to switching to Canidae Chicken and Rice his stool was very loose and he had constant on and off bouts of diarrhea. Now with Canidae his stool is well formed and of good color. He loves the taste and is apparently not bored with the food as he cleans his bowl in short order twice a day.

When I first used Canidae Chicken and Rice was just before the recall of other brands. I wanted assurance that they weren't on any recall list, or that their product was safe from contaminates. I will grade them on ingredients, which I must approve as nutrient rich. Although I agree with other raters to the soft texture and taste that dogs don't tend to enjoy eating often. Flavor must be improved in the product for regularity.

I think this is a great brand!! I feed it to my mix dog for 6 months now and its has been every thing she needed and more!! it gave a beautiful shiny, soft coat and the small kibbles are good for her small mouth(not olny that, its goo for her too...unlike some brands). I reccomend this brand to everyone I know! It gets FIVE stars from me and my girl. the olny down side to this is she gets board of eating the same 'ol food every day, but other then that... it GREAT!!!!

I started to feed Canidae Chicken and Rice to my puppy at 10 weeks old after he (a yellow lab) barely touched his food (other premium brand)during feeding time. Ever since then, he has been eating with a lot of gusto! He is now 18 weeks old with very soft and shiny coat. Canidae Chicken and Rice smells good too. I think it is because of the flaxseed oil. I am now feeding him Canidae All Life Stages (to give him exposure to other protein sources). It is still a very good product and he loves it but does not smell as good as Chicken and Rice to me ....:)

We have to small dogs - one of them a picky eater and we tried all kinds of dog food - California natural , Chicken soup , Eagle pack ,Canidae all life stages - the Canidae Chicken and rice is definetely my favorite so far . One of the dogs used to have a lot of gas and a sensitive stomach - all gone now . They love the food, their fur looks great , the poop is small and less smelly than with other brands , no upset stomach any more and the kibbles are perfect for small breeds ... I am feeding it for about 4 months now and so far I am very pleased!

Not much to say about this food, but that it is pretty bland and there is really not much to this food but what they say. Chicken and Rice. They do have white rice in this formula which isn't that great but otherwise the only thing i can say is that your dog will probably get bored pretty fast with this food.

Great for the skin and coat. Cures hot spots on my pup in about three weeks. Highly recommended.

I noticed that my dog recently ate around the kibble in her dish and only ate the raw frozen or canned I often mix in with the kibble. I wanted to see if it was the kibble she rejected or her interest in the other foods in her dish. I had just received some samples of Canidae Chicken and Rice and decidied to mix it in with the raw frozen food I was feeding her. She gobbled up every bit of food in her dish and didn't leave any of the Canidae. For the next several feedings, the same result, devoured all the Canidae Chicken and Rice. This morning, before adding anything to the kibble I wanted to see what see would do. She began to wolf down the Canidae even without anything else mixed in with it. Good food...will have to see long term results, but it gets a 5 from me now.
