Fun, memorable little number. This, and "Summer in the City" always remind me of the summers of my wastrel youth.2

"Jug Band Makes Good" isn't a common headline, but Mungo Jerry did with "In The Summertime" as music entered the 70's, a time when pretty much any song had a shot. Easily considered a folk-rock party song, a genre not exactly known for light-heartedness, the single bounced its way to #3 on the American pop chart, appearing for 11 weeks total in 1970. "In The Summertime" has been a favorite cover for reggae artists (the version by Rhythm Trak being highly recommended). For a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kOgTbn47qU (worked for me).4

Catchy tune with some of the most politically incorrect lyrics ever (eg "have a drink, have a drive").1
