I remember the best thing about MUNI was dollar bus fare with a free 6 hour transfer! I thought this was soo great while I was there, though I am sure it would have changed. I was able to find buses throughout the city and the drivers were pretty friendly to use East Coast gals who needed some help finding a few things!

Once again, glad it's here for us. BUT, riding MUNI in the a.m. from the Sunset to downtown was usually a pain in the arse. Soo crowded, late trains, stopping at the Duboce tunnel for 20 minutes for no good reason known to us! It was tough...but when I didn't have a car it was my only option. Some MUNI buses are better than others and some of the train lines are better than the others too. And now I hear they are raising the cost again. Yikes.

Aside form a few mishaps, MUNI has great coverage. I don't own a car thanks to MUNI.

I never used the Muni that much. I use BART or the Cable Cars.

I guess it's not bad... you can get most places you need to go. But it's so slow.... takes me an hour to get from the Mission to the Marina on the 22 (about 2.5 miles).   MUNI is no fun in the rain.

Sometimes it is faster to walk to your destination than to wait for the next bus (the 22 especially)

MUNI gets a pretty bad rap, but for me it has been pretty reliable. Just don't expect much. I'm fond of the streetcars that convert to subway cars to go up market street.

One thing: Stop hiring dumb nuts as drivers. Since I have a baby, I've been, the drivers (most of em) have been giving me baby-haters attitudes. I even got kicked out of one bus after the driver threw my ticket away and said I needed to pay again. Muni, I won't miss you if i get a chance.

In some ways, MUNI is peerless: excellent integration with BART, big clean underground stations, aesthetically pleasing vehicles (love those red street lines). But if you care only about getting around fast (i.e., if you're not a tourist), the system isn't regular or fast enough, unless you're on the downtown stretches with the underground stations. The further you go out, the more the street lines get slowed down, especially since the drivers tend to defer to traffic -- those bells on the street cars sound a lot like those on a bicycle! I used to hate the excrutiatingly slow trip to the Sunset from downtown, and forget about taking MUNI to the Zoo. But, overall, coverage is excellent: more areas are covered than you'd think -- the Richmond, while remote, has the most regular bus line to downtown (38) that I've ever seen; it must run every two minutes. The city just needs more vehicle running more often to make the system better.

Muni's great. It will get you anywhere in the city and is closeby to almost any street downtown. Once you get into the outskirts things get a bit more sticky; less buses, times are less frequent, harder to find a bus stop...that's the price you pay for a little more privacy I guess. Overall, I can't think of a city with a better bus system that SF.

Can be slow, but it is efficient to get from downtown to other parts of the city. I like the way that this railway runs when it takes to some special landmarks in San Francisco, but some of the stations underground may need to look a little better.

You can go anywhere and it runs at all times of the day. It is very quick and efficient in getting people around.
