Has anyone figured out why people have this phobia? I still don't understand it, and sometimes I get so frustrated. I don't think my case is very severe. I only start to freak out when it's a real one. I can't really watch one on tv or look at a those HD nature photos. I've tried to force myself and I can manage a couple seconds. My friend had a pet frog once. And when I was assured it wouldn't come out of the tank, I could stand by it and look at it. One time when I was in Hong Kong, one was in the middle of the sidewalk, and I barely caught it in my peripheral when I walked up next to it. I don't remember the second after that. But, I ended up a block down the street and feeling like my skin was crawling. My family laughed all the way over when they caught up with me. Thankfully, I live in the chicago and in an city area where they aren't that common.

thank you for sharing all your stories i feel so much better! i have a terrifying fear of frogs. its not as severe as most of your fears as i can look at them on t.v and what not. but i still cant go outside without thinking about them and looking at all my surroundings sometimes i even hallucinate and think i see them. i don't know when my fear started but i've always been afraid of frogs since i can remember. I'm just scared they will jump on me or i will step on them which is my worst fear. i constantly have dreams about them and i don't hate them and i know they wont hurt me but the thought of them just terrifies me so much. I am just happy I've made it through another summer without seeing one!

I am totally terrified of these creatures, harmless i beg to differ with that notion. I live in Africa in botswana easily one of the driest countries in sub-saharan african,so when it does rain they come out in numbers. you can imagine how much my life bcomes hell in summer. Scelo I cant look at them on tv, pictures, cant stand animations of frogs, stuffed toys, i dont even like learning about them cause it only adds to my fears of them. The worst thing is that even when i drive i cannot conciously step over one,and have to move from their way. frogs are an abomination, and the only time they look friendly is when someone has rolled them flat, and the kind african sun baked them into black patch. I hate them. my favourite animal is snakes simply because they do not spare them. I have realised that the more i grow up,the more fearful i become, as for bull frogs ive seen only one all my life dead...almost had a heart attack!!

I felt like i had to look this up tonight. I am now glad I did. I thought I was the only one with this phobia.when we got home there was a frog in our driveway and I paniced and was frozen, all i could do was stand there and scream. My husband stood there and laughed at me.I finally ran and got back in the car because the frog was in the way of the front door.i sat in the car for over an hour til my husband agreed to carry me inside.i cant even look at pictures or look at them through glass.

I can say that I know how the people with this phobia feels. My nightmares consist of frogs and I too awake to hallucinations of these creatures in my bed and in my room. I can't explain this fear, as irrational as it may be, it still terrifies me. Yesterday, I made a complete fool of myself in front of my boyfriend's friends. We were chillin' outside (it was late evening) when I saw one jumping across the patio. Immediately I scream and begin to panic. Tears falling, I begin to scream for someone to open the door; my whole body was shaking in fear. Tonight, I go to my Aunts for a cookout, as it gets dark I immediately fear the outside. I can't go outside when it is raining without constantly checking my surroundings in fear one being near me. I know how silly it must sound but I promise you this phobia is real and distressing to anyone who has it.

It's good to know I'm also not the only one that has a "rational" fear of a totally harmless creature! I also know the story behind my trauma, although I was too young to remember. Well, my mom & dad went out "frog giggin" & when they got home, my dad, not meaning any harm & thinking I would play with it, put a large bullfrog in my playpen. For a long time my parents didnt know what this had done to me. That is until my mom & I had gone to visit my grandparents one night after it had been raining. There were those slimy little tree frogs all over the porch. My mom said I went nuts & literally tried to climb up her to get away from them. My dad & younger brother tormemted me for years - still do as matter of fact! I've even gone as far as locking myself in a car with all the windows rolled up until my mom says it's OK to come out b/c my brother will stand at the window with a frog in his hand waiting on the chance to stick it in my face. Now 30 years later, I'm still scared to death of ... Read more

It's not ridiculous. I have the same phobia-that's why it's called a phobia. It's irrational and very mental. Public speaking can't hurt you either but many people have that fear.

Living in Florida, it would be pretty unbearable to have this fear (ask my neighbor). She knows how irrational it is to be fearful of harmless animals, but she still can't help herself. She says it all started as a child, with an older brother who would torment her by putting frogs down the back of her shirt/shorts etc, then got even worse when they rained down from the rafters of her house. She hasn't been the same since...
