11/22/2006 | | Today is November 22. On this date in history, in 1718, English pirate, Edward Teach, known as Blackbeard, was killed in a sea battle with the Royal Navy off the coast of North Carolina.
His career was rather short. He kept close to shore so the big war ships couldn't get at him. The Royal Navy outfitted two smaller vessels that ran him down and ended his plundering when a British crewman, who was a Scots Highlander, cut off Teach's head with a stroke of his Highland broadsword.
