It’s the tradition and the fans that distance college football from every other American sport, and no one does tradition or incorporates the fan base better than A&M.; The 12th man—the student body—stands throughout all home games as a show of support, but the coolest aspect of this institution is the 12th man kickoff team, which used to be comprised entirely of walk-ons, and now has a single representative that emerges from a tryout. What better way to connect a football program to the entire student body than to take one of their own—an every man—and assimilate him into the team? It blurs the line between athletes and students, and gives Aggie fans their version of Rudy to rally around every time they reconvene at Kyle Field.
