03/06/2006 | When I was a kid, we would make rockets out of zinc and sulfur. You had to get a pile of zinc shavings probably from a plumbing shop. Mix the zinc and sulfur on a 50-50 basis, find a proper tube that would serve as a rocket, fill it up, attach a fuse (probably from a cherry bomb left over from the last Fourth of July) and then run! It really burns fast and zips the old rocket right up into the air.
