Pissed off about the plans of some developers in Carmel, where he lived, Eastwood successfully ran for Mayor on an anti-development platform and won, serving a single two year term from 1986-88 He blocked the plans of developers to buy a 22 acre ranch, by buying it himself for five million dollars.
