David Coverdale was a very good vocalist (and still not too bad, IMO) and he often had a plethora of top-class musicians behind him. This band could deliver vocal hooks ('Here I Go Again'), good riffs and blinding solos ('Still of the Night'). Were they original? Good god, no. That being said, though, 'Still of the Night' is still one of the best Led Zeppelin rip-offs ever. I've heard a couple of songs off their new album and I'm liking both of them so far.

John Sykes was a very damn good guitarest. Check out his project after Whitesnake called "Blue Murder". This was very good hard rock of that day.
