We used to sing this in grammar school! I always liked this song.

I believe it's really just the Byrds' adaption of a Pete Seeger song based on Ecclesiastes. Then again, some people find zen buddhism meanings in Ernie singing about his rubber duck, so I guess anything can be anything you want.
